The inability of FCPS to staff their front offices is also detrimental to the functioning of a school. I've been working with someone for two months -- who wants me to start Monday but I haven't received my "salary calculation review" yet so I don't know how I'm supposed to show up to support the Principal on Monday. And I was a long-term sub so I'm already in the system!
We waste too much money on consultants, lawyers, and unnecessary administrative positions at Gatehouse. Start increasing the salaries of people who work directly with the kids - bus drivers, counselors, and teachers. Of course, that’s never going to happen.
The cost of those “unnecessary” Gatehouse positions is miniscule.
What about the consultants? Lawyers to defend unreasonable decisions? The additional work foisted on teachers because of those "experts" in Gatehouse? Remember the salary of the Gatehouse positions is only part of the equation. The contracts, benefits, and travel add greatly to the budget. For example: "Equity" speicialist (or whatever it is called now) has a staff to support her. She gives contracts and hires consultants. Surveys cost money. On and on and on.
Oh the equity specialists are a real treat. Each time I attend one of their presentations there is a nice ‘white people bashing’ article we’re forced to read. They’re well worth the money… for sure.
That is a part of the Transformative Social Emotional Program. We need to get rid of programs like SEL, but let’s start with the people who approved to implement it in our schools in FCPS. That would include people at Gatehouse who make those decisions. Also, let’s freeze the recent salary increase of the School Board; they don’t deserve to get paid a cent. If anything, they should be the ones paying the legal fees that are about to come due to their refusal to comply with The 2023 Model Policies. It is their fault, not the taxpayers’, nor the schools’ support staff.
