What happens if FCPS isn't staffed by the first day of school?

Anonymous
We have a handful of still unfilled roles, but several that were “filled” still haven’t been processed by HR so who knows what our staffing is actually going to look like.

As a previous poster said .....Wheeeee! FCPS is a blast.

And yet it has less vacancies than elsewhere.

I'm not buying that....FCPS is great at making things look good.

I don't think every school specifies whether someone is a trainee or resident teacher. Ours doesn't.
We are still short several positions although only two are officially listed on the vacancy list.

+1 The vacancy list is VERY short for the size of the district. Some people on this site just don't like dealing with reality.

The same thread is posted every year. A district FCPS's size will never be 100% staffed going into the first day, but they are close enough

At that point the school gave up on hiring someone, split up his class, and added 8-9 kids to each of the other 3 classrooms. It was not good.

FCPS is a joke. They hire people with no teaching qualifications.
I don’t know how they are getting away with it.

Many states are doing it. We are not paying or respecting teachers enough- this is the result.

How do you know this?

Big increase last year in the number of teachers/admin at different schools who I saw go out on extended medical leave. The mental and physical toll that schools are having on people is scary and real. This can occur at any point in the year and a long term sub slides in and we hope for the best. It was my school, my friends’ schools, my own kid’s school.

+1 parent/FCPS teacher

I'm not the PP but our school has a few and they are listed are on the school website-this is how SPED is filling many vacancies.

I think it's great to have teacher trainees in the classroom. What they learn in school will be more relevant and applicable and they will have mentorship to support them through the challenges. It's a lot to be in school and teach, but I don't think it's necessarily a negative.

Don’t teacher trainees have to have a Bachelor’s degree and pass content specific tests?

The reality is that Teachers start in less than 48 hours and kids start in 8 days and my school has 4 vacancies and 2-3 more that are supposedly filled but those hired haven’t cleared HR.

Thanks. I’m an ES teacher and I see our Vacancy List listings and I know we have a long term immersion sub, but hadn’t heard if any new staff are trainees. I haven’t looked at the school’s website.

Would you rather a trainee or a long term sub?
