Biden to propose 5.2% federal pay increase, largest in pay raise in 43 years

Check the CBA. Also, if you are at the financial regulator with less than a year / without a year end review, you may not get the full raise. This happened to me at another financial regulator.

Under the current compensation agreement, SEC gets whatever the GS raise is, plus an additional percentage (can’t recall the exact amount, but it’s somewhere in the 2-3% range). Big caveat is that our raises don’t take effect until late April, rather than January. PP is correct that there is some sort of deadline for being on board during the prior year to get the full raise but I think pretty much everyone gets at least something.

tbh should feds even be able to buy a house? It's a government worker - there are plenty of apartments all over the place. People who are a manager at a retail store can't afford a SFH so why should a government worker?

This has to be a troll.

Republicans don’t appear to be fighting the pay increase.

They’re focused on reducing telework (not unreasonable) and eliminating coverage of employee abortions and transgender surgeries (lol).

None of the federal insurance plans cover abortions. What are you blathering about?

Just quoting the article which you didn’t bother to read:

“The bill also targets telework, options in the TSP’s mutual fund window, and FEHB coverage for abortions and gender-affirming care for transgender individuals.”

Please point out which Federal insurance plan currently covers voluntary abortions. I’ll wait.

I was just summarizing the article, I have no idea why you're getting so riled up over abortion. It doesn't matter to me what the federal plans cover. The fact is the GOP seems to be focusing on denying abortion coverage (whatever impact that may or may not have) rather than denying a pay raise, which is probably a good thing for federal workers, since this will go nowhere in the Senate.

The House appropriations bill discussed in the article contains the following provisions:

"SEC. 613. No funds appropriated by this Act shall be available to pay for an abortion, or the administrative expenses in connection with any health plan under the Federal employees health benefits program which provides any benefits or coverage for abortions.

SEC. 614. The provision of section 613 shall not apply where the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term, or the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest."

You were parroting misinformation.

How is summarizing a legislative proposal misinformation?

Because federal plans don’t cover elective abortions.

No one said they do! The GOP’s proposal contains a statutory prohibition on such coverage, now and in the future.

Breaking news: GOP makes an idiotic proposal!

Remember when Obama gave us nothing and then nothing again and when he had large segments of government furloughed without pay (and no we didn’t get it back from the sequester like from a lapsed appropriation).

Stop assuming one party will help you over another.

Because a retail manager can be someone two years out of high school and my government role *requires* a Ph.D. and at least ten years of work experience. The two positions aren’t even in the same universe of job.

Who do you think should be able to buy a house? I shouldn't even go there but this is mind-bogglingly stupid enough that I'm curious about the logic. You can't just say "private sector," since retail managers work in the private sector and apparently they are also undeserving.

Yes, helping government employees capped at $183.5k is the top priority for both the Dems and GOP. Biden, Trump, and DeSantis each have pledged to address the issue.

Everyone affected by the sequester. Not the appropriations lapse that happened the same year, but the sequestration itself. My husband and I (both DoD) lost 20% of our pay for however many weeks. I want to say it ended up being 5 but was was supposed to be much longer. Those of you that weren’t affected don’t remember or even recognize it as reality but trust me….we were not refunded the loss.

And yeah, it was them, but also it was him.

I’ve been a federal employee for over 20 years and I’m not remotely kidding. Both parties use Federal Employees to further their own agenda. Bush gave us like 3-4% raises every year and Obama came and gave us practically nothing (sometimes actually giving us nothing). You can argue all you want that Republicans don’t like us and I won’t argue, but the response that Democrats care so deeply is pretty flawed. I’ll admit Biden has been generous so far.
