Biden to propose 5.2% federal pay increase, largest in pay raise in 43 years

Lots of federal employees earn six figures. Giving them a raise during a major recession is a bad look. Hard to blame Obama; why waste political capital on that?

This “Federal Employees make six figures” bullshit argument has been the same for literal decades now and six figures goes anywhere from 100,000 to 999,999 and that’s a big range. It is no one’s opinion that for very many positions we make less than our private counterparts. We deserve fair pay just like everyone else. Trust me, if they continue to lag further behind, you won’t like what you get to do the jobs we do. And the lazy uninformed argument that we are all lazy and uninformed won’t make anything work well.

By “no one’s opinion” I mean it’s a fact.

Its would be just insanely naive for either party to ignore federal employees.

Yes, helping government employees capped at $183.5k is the top priority for both the Dems and GOP. Biden, Trump, and DeSantis each have pledged to address the issue.

They effectively make less and less with each passing year. I know everyone thinks it’s so much, but these are employees in charge of big programs, and could be making triple in the private sector.

I hope the pay increase is contingent on federal workers coming back to the office. I’m so tired of being fleeced. You’re already over paid as it is.

Keep stewing in envy.

Just go to the private sector if you want more money. I don’t understand federal employees who continue to complain so much.

I made the move to government, make 1/3 of my prior salary, and am happy with my decision. Many people find the benefits of federal employment worth the salary loss. I’m not worried about a brain drain.

I don’t want more money. I want a regular raise that keeps my salary in line with the way the economy works. You really think that federal employees should just not get raises? WTF is wrong with you?

I want a COL raise as much as anyone, but I don’t expect to get one when the political climate would disfavor it. Obama would have taken a major hit for attempting to raise salaries for federal workers while many people were unable to find work. So I don’t fault him at all. That’s just how things are.

Most employees are already getting regular step increases, so they’re not going without a raise unless they’re capped.

Don't worry. I make sure to have multiple 1-hour meetings at the local coffee shop each day i'm forced to be in the office. Our agency head is apparently very worried I'm not socializing OR supporting the local economy, and so I make sure to focus on his priorities when I am in the office. The actual work of the agency I do when working from home, because I certainly cannot get much work done with 12-year-old monitors and a webcam circa 2002.

DCUM poster: You tech workers, lawyers, scientists and engineers making $200k to $500k with bonuses are totally worth it.

Also DCUM: You government tech workers, lawyers, scientists and engineers making up to $183.5k are so overpaid.

High earners in law and tech have zero job security, and a layoff after 50 can effectively end their careers. A federal salary is basically an annuity as long as you do 10 hours of work per week.
