SHRM and the Tribune newspaper reported that there’ll be no wage increase. You people are so gullible! No one with half a brain believes anything demented Joe says.

Speaking of half a brain, you’ve completely missed the point that this thread reawakened when the Legislative Branch introduced language with the 5.2% in it. When spouting your nonsense, could you at least cite recent nonsense?

Republicans don’t appear to be fighting the pay increase.

They’re focused on reducing telework (not unreasonable) and eliminating coverage of employee abortions and transgender surgeries (lol).

None of the federal insurance plans cover abortions. What are you blathering about?

Just quoting the article which you didn’t bother to read:

“The bill also targets telework, options in the TSP’s mutual fund window, and FEHB coverage for abortions and gender-affirming care for transgender individuals.”

Please point out which Federal insurance plan currently covers voluntary abortions. I’ll wait.

I was just summarizing the article, I have no idea why you're getting so riled up over abortion. It doesn't matter to me what the federal plans cover. The fact is the GOP seems to be focusing on denying abortion coverage (whatever impact that may or may not have) rather than denying a pay raise, which is probably a good thing for federal workers, since this will go nowhere in the Senate.

The House appropriations bill discussed in the article contains the following provisions:

"SEC. 613. No funds appropriated by this Act shall be available to pay for an abortion, or the administrative expenses in connection with any health plan under the Federal employees health benefits program which provides any benefits or coverage for abortions.

SEC. 614. The provision of section 613 shall not apply where the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term, or the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest."

Feds are not guaranteed promotions every year. Our step increases aren’t even every year (unless you’re a step 1-3 I think? Maybe those are every 2 years).

And we lag behind the private sector on salaries across the board.

Also, not every pay scale has step increases and those that do are only every year for a few years and then they’re every 2 years and THEN every 3 years. And then they stop completely unless you get promoted. Oh. And then at 15-10 they stop altogether for the rest of your career, if you ever even make it to that level.

But, you’re right. We should just never get raises. It’s unconscionable that we expect to make enough money to live off.

Do you really really want people working for the government who are willing to make nothing? Is that the caliber of employee you want protecting you?

People are so stupid it’s exhausting.

Capped out at 15-7 now. In 2024, it will be 15-6.

I wish there would be a nice pay raise, but will never happen. Actual inflation was close to 15% last year and my spouse who was underpaid as a Fed to begin with only got that 4.3% or whatever it was. We're looking to buy a SFH and really feeling the pinch as to what PITI we can afford vs just 2 years ago.

Yep. And a 14 step 10 only makes a few thousand less so unless they fix and raise the pay cap some feeds actually get a pay cut!

Because federal plans don’t cover elective abortions.

No one said they do! The GOP’s proposal contains a statutory prohibition on such coverage, now and in the future.

I doubt it. Everyone knows inflation is happening, so it’s understandable even to people who dislike government. The GOP would surely be fighting it if they thought their voters actually cared.

NP. Federal plans don't even cover "abortions" when the baby is incompatible with life or will die at birth.

The issue is there are so so many feds in this area...when one gets a raise the rest do as well...raises won't help us feds in regards to home affordability. Also all the military folks get raises every year as well. Lots of them around here as well.

I'm debating a jump from GS scale to a different scale (SK scale at the SEC) -- would the 5.2% federal pay increase apply there too? Might be a dumb question but the new pay scale is totally new to me.

tbh should feds even be able to buy a house? It's a government worker - there are plenty of apartments all over the place. People who are a manager at a retail store can't afford a SFH so why should a government worker?
