Distressed dad says 'never did I think I would have a problem finding food for my baby in America'

Curious if the whistleblower was senior, junior and disgruntled before?

Any more incidents since the Oct 21 filing?

The total shutdown takedown seems like a dramatic and wrong way to handle it.

Really? Did you read the document?

I read that and they only mentioned the one brand someone’s child needed. I googled it and Walmart on line was out of it, but suggested another brand. Maybe doctors can come up with a list of comparable brands and make a website. WM listed all the ingredients. The formulas are expensive though, like $177 for three cans of powder. These articles certainly should list the brands people need. If there were a be on the lookout list, I’d donate some if I found it locally. Maybe food banks could organize formula drives.

I don't think you understand how severe the situation can be. For some of these infants, it's not about comparable brands. They will only tolerate one brand (often after months of trial/error with extreme weight loss/dehydration etc). The alternative is starvation.

And the problem is that the formula aren't available anywhere, since there's only one manufacturer.

They found some germ in or around the factory, not on the equipment, not on the product, not in the product.

No idea on sickness or death if the unhealthy babies who also had formula. Did autopsies show it was that germ that caused or or something off with the formula caused it?

Anyhow, govt did what govt does best, doesn’t think ahead and just shut it down.

The sheer ignorance! Infant formula is one of the most regulated food products in the country. There's are reasons for this.
1. To keep babies safe.
2. To ensure parents trust that the formula is safe.

It's not straightforward to change the regulatory regime, since the system is designed for safety...not resilience. We don't have a regulatory regime that makes it easy to take half-measures. Maybe we'll develop one, but it's hard to do it on the fly.

When there is only one manufacturer, there is a monopoly and will than manufacturer fails, its an issue. Capitalism doesn't handle these situations well.

Capitalism is the only reason your thyroid medication exists in the first place.

This is risible, as pertains to thyroid hormone specifically. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

Yes. Part of detaining people against their will is that you can’t starve them when they are in your custody. We are not Nazis and we are not running concentration camps. If you want to set them loose, they can go find formula on their own with the rest of us. Better yet- stop separating them from their children and they can even breastfeed.

It’s ok if brown babies starve?

If they’re at a migrant holding facility, how are they going to go search for formula?

According to NIH brown babies in the U.S. are the ones that use formula the most. Or is it ok if U.S. citizen brown babies starve?

They should be fining them big time and then allowing them to reopen. Give that money to families who need it.

I don't understand why everyone doesn't just breastfeed.

How, exactly, would this result in a decontaminated factory that won't produce another batch of baby-killing formula?
