Thank you. That's a BMI of <19.

I think the people who claim to be “naturally” thin mean that they don’t concertedly restrict their calorie intake beyond making generally healthy choices related to food and exercise.

That is different from a “fast metabolism” which I think is what most people think of when they hear of someone being thin “naturally” or because of “genetics.”

Seriously. That’s 2 lbs away from being clinically underweight. This poster has an eating disorder. No one should be fasting one day a week at that weight, especially since it seems like it doesn’t come naturally to her.

I’m 5’4’’ 123, so I guess I’m a fatty on this thread.

When skinny women/people say “it’s genetic” what they mean is they inherited the ability only eat just until they are full and they are easily satisfied with small portions. They naturally do not crave or want to eat large amounts of food/sugar. Most people that are overweight struggle with addictive tendencies in food which certainly is genetic.

I’m thin, but I wouldn’t say it is genetic. I have to watch what I eat and set portion limits, especially if it is something sweet or carb heavy. I would WANT and could eat four slices of pizza. But I don’t. I have one then some salad or a fruit. When I go to birthday parities, I want to eat a big slice of cake, but I share a piece with my husband instead and have a couple bites.

I’m thin at 5’8 and btw 125-130. I used to be more 135-140 but then I developed reflux. Adopting the acid watcher diet out if necessity is how I got thinner. My exercise has always been a regular thing for me.

NP here. I don’t know why people keep saying PP has eating disorder. I am also 5’7” and have a BMI under 18. I am very small framed and have a lot of muscle. I do not have a eating disorder nor have I ever had one. A recent physical shows great blood work and vitals. Doc was not concerned with my weight at all. I spend a lot of time at my sport, but that is to excel in the sport, not to lose weight. I like to cook and don’t limit any food groups and definitely eat sweets. I just make sure I get enough protein and fruits and veggies, but don’t shy away from dessert or fried food.

It’s not the weight it’s the mentality.

I think it's the weight. A lot of female athletes lose their periods and reduce their bone density via under eating and over exercising. You can feel great about your body and still be harming yourself relative to gaining 15 lbs. (Also, at a bmi under 18, you do not have a lot of muscle because you do not have a lot of anything. Your muscles may be quite visible, but after your essential organs, bones, and essential levels of body fat, there's not a lot left for muscle. )

Ugh, the pathos on this thread.

Thread: If you are skinny, tell me how.

Some women: Diet, exercise, some good luck.

Some naturally thin women: I don't know, I don't do anything, it's genetic.

Thread: But if being skinny can be genetic, why can't being fat be genetic?!?!

Everyone: Oh, it definitely is.

Like 3 People: I am skinny because I have a legit eating disorder.

Thread: See? No one is naturally thin.

A bunch of other women: Exactly. I don't have an actual eating disorder, but I do starve myself and exercise 4-7 days a week to stay (relatively) thin. I am 5'9" and weigh 120 lbs.

It's extremely unhelpful! Could we get some kind of mass therapy session going on? We need help, and not in the form of diet and exercise tips, sorry.

If you had a lot of muscle you'd weight more. Muscle is heavy. The following is from NerdFitness

Seriously. I’m your height and 118, and I consider myself thin. I have a 25 inch waist, but with wide hips, and a thigh gap due to the wider hips. I am thin as in I don’t have much body fat. If I got to 110 lbs or a BMI under 19 I’d be very sick. Some people have smaller bones or a more narrow set frame, but generally speaking, a BMI under 20 is thin. It can be perfectly healthy, but it is objectively thin.

I am female, but I have lived with men enough to know for a fact that men would find this woman’s body attractive and not at all fat. No man would look at this woman and say she should lose weight. Women (some of them) have such a screwed up perception of weight.
