Have you ever been to a Pride event? Drag brunch? Women’s march? Experienced what it feels like to not hate your immigrant neighbors? Been part of a peaceful chalk the walk protest? Do you know how freeing it is to not just blindly buy into archaic beliefs about religion, marriage, and economics? To feel passionate about social injustices and helping others? I grew up in a red state thinking I was conservative for years and I know first hand that living life paranoid that immigrants, trans people, etc. are out to take things from you is an exhausting way to live. And surrounding yourself with angry conservative men who base their ideas of masculinity on ridiculous charicatures and quote idiots like Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, Charlie Kirk, etc. is draining. Also there is a reason Grindr blows up at Republican conventions. So many of these men are repressed and angry. I’ve become increasingly liberal over the past decade and it’s so much more fun caring about others and not just buying into the garbage that churches and billionaires shill to control the masses. |
Ok. So, given the topic of this thread….are you saying you have family members who are liberal attorneys judges and you don’t like to be with them? |
The well reasoned logic of a MAGA supporter illustrated right here. This post literally boils down to: I voted for Trump because he was better (opinion, zero facts cited). Harris would make things continue to be bad (again, zero facts cited). Bolstered with phrases like “correctly, I might add” and “I think we can all agree” as if that eliminates the need for any debate over the matter. I truly think this is representative of the depth of a MAGA voter. But since they’re in a bubble of other idiots their baseless “logic” is reaffirmed even when lawyers, scientists, political scholars, etc. who know more than them try to explain what is going on. Then there is a factual statement about Biden’s decline followed by complete and willful ignorance of the fact Trump is already showing significantly more decline less than 1 year into his 4 year term. But I guess it is ok when the crazy orange man clearly has dementia. He thinks Portland is a war zone even though he could turn on a live feed camera and see all the inflatable costumes. That city is a party right now. |
This. It’s easy to hate and blame others for one’s life not turning out the way they had hoped it would. The MAGA men I know made poor life choices and or never stood up to the people who actually harmed them— lousy fathers and bad bosses who were abusive. If only MAGA would consider those who are actually causing damage, for example, industries excited to deregulate so they no longer have to put much effort into protecting their workers. |

I cut off an aunt and cousin. They totally got sucked into newsmax and Fox and youtube conspiracies. It became impossible to talk to them. They would spam family with YouTube links to random guys in English basements talking about satellites and conspiracy theories. If I asked who this person was and why their website talked about shadow or elemental people and why they would credit this random person they had no real answers. It was always dont trust MSM and they did “research.”
My aunt was smart but partnered years ago with a bigot who watched fox news 24-7 and as she has aged as a boomer cannot handle how fake posts are or what is news and what isnt etc. My cousin is not bright and has a history of drinking and DUIs and has a violent and cold marriage. They both have become super religious despite their personal lives being an absolute mess. I had to distance because they are toxic and full of hate and lies. They also try and spread them. They argue on FB with AI summaries. Its all very sad and exhausting. For my own sanity, I want nothing to do with the toxicity. |
Imagine feeling morally superior because you go to drag brunch. I suddenly feel like we might have been a bit harsh with all those men who used to eat lunch at strip clubs. Fast forward 20 years, going to gay or trans exhibitions are a virtue symbol. |
You come here and say this a lot- it's more of a reflection of your social circle than reality. The Democratic party has a substantial advantage among low income voters and while it gets complicated once you move up the socioeconomic classes, it remains true that people become more conservative with wealth-- this even if complicated by the fact that wealthy enclaves are blue. My personal journey began as a poor Democrat. I became conservative somewhere around 700k per year. I've now reached the level of wealth that I listen to country music and wear camo hats. Once we hit 5M annually, I'll be throwing parties for ICE agents and wearing MAGA hats to restaurants. |
Uh, drag brunches aren't about exploitation, unlike strip clubs. You've wildly missed the mark. |
Keep telling yourself it's normal to pay to watch mentally ill people engage in a sexy performance. Sorry but it's the same thing. Exploited, mentally ill people performing for money and validation. |
You just have crappy values. We fall into the 32% bracket - most of our income is earned through paychecks, so we pay A LOT in taxes. We’d love to pay less in taxes, but we’re not greedy sociopaths who blame poor people and immigrants for our tax burden. We blame the ultra wealthy who built a thousands loopholes for themselves and put the heaviest burden on those who work for their money. So while they can afford to remodel their yacht with redwood paneling and gold toilets, we’re putting off home repairs and normal vacations. |
I didn’t say I’m morally superior. I was disputing the notion that liberals are angry. I’m actually not angry (except for powerful people treating minority groups like crap, that does make me mad). But in general I feel so much happier and less angry not buying into the narrative that other groups of people are to blame for my life’s problems. And if anything diversity has enriched my life. |
No, drag is offensive to me (and many others) because it’s a bunch of men pretending to be women and adopting and portraying caricatures of women. They all present as bubbly, gushing airhead valley girls, uptalking and vocal frying themselves as caricatures of actual women. The are essentially the equivalent of Al Jolson performing in black-face. They are performing woman-face. And it’s every bit as gross and offensive. Actual trans persons who are just living their lives aren’t doing this. I’m speaking solely of the men who are acting like over the top theatrical caricatures of women |
I’m pretty sure (or hoping) the PP was mocking republicans for becoming increasingly selfish the richer they become. If this poster is for real then omg how embarrassing for them. |
Not family members but friends from work and church. My church has a very diverse congregation. We discuss issues in a very open but polite manner. I'm not ultra conservative and voted for Harris but do think leniency in sentencing for crimes is a mistake. |
This is the stupidest thing I've read on DCUM this year. And, that's saying A LOT! |
