It can’t be avoided by those who don’t fit the profile of being trans (which, let’s face it, is mostly white girls on the autism spectrum/have other mental health issues/quirky in some way or is a theater kid).

Why do you need to “avoid” the issue of its so small? Let people live their lives. Stop obsessing over it and you’ll stop noticing it.

I don't look at trans people any differently than anyone else. What is the big deal? All you’re being asked to do is not discriminate or bully them. Is that really too much to ask?

You’re not listening. It’s not a small issue. It’s pervasive.

It's really not. Not even close to the level of abuse by team docs or coaches. Or even parents beating on their kids and the refs when they're out on the field. Have you even been to watch girls high school sports??

Wow. You have lost all touch with everything.

Answer the question. Do you watch girls high school sports? You would have to watch years of them to ever catch a glimpse of a trans player out there on the girls team. And probably a few more years to catch a glimpse of a trans player on the girls team without any talent at all.

Seriously quit your whining and spend your time on something that's a real problem.

Dp. I’ve been to a handful of high school sporting events in my life and I’ve seen a trans player on a girls team.

I don’t know that many people, but I know multiple people with trans kids.

I go to sign my kid up for a pre-college event, and I’m offered 13 genders to choose from for him on the form. I wish I were exaggerating.

It’s not a small issue. It’s pervasive.

Well, I've probably watched thousands of hours of girls high school sports. It is not pervasive. I promise you.

Go to the college and post college level where money is involved and get back to us.

watched plenty of college women's sports. It is not a thing.

It is for you so post away. But know that the tremendous majority of women playing sports in college are focused on the difficult balance of managing academics and playing college sports. The issue of trans athletes is not discussed among the athletes or the parents...ever. There are a hundred other topics more pressing.

It’s spawned a lawsuit on the west coast, so it may become a pressing topic. https://www.deseret.com/sports/2024/11/15/lawsuit-over-transgender-volleyball-player-san-jose-state/

Which is the proper way to make change on the issue. You don’t set a match to your whole damn country over it.

Yes. Average voters don’t care if it’s not an actual “thing”. If you are pushing policies that make it a possible thing, that’s all they respond to. See late term abortion.

And yet Dems double down instead of pushing back on their own, and alienate more voters instead of maybe kindly telling the loud fringe to sit down for a damn minute so we can win an election..

Not a young woman's athletic scholarship depends on pitching on the softball team or the university allowing a trans man to take your place and scholarship because they can't compete with non-trans men.

Kamala voter and I agree—the fact that this rarely happens is totally irrelevant to a low info voter. They don’t like it, people have to stop defending it and not be afraid to say that it’s wrong.

If it happens a single time, it’s happened too many times.

Biological males should not play sports on any level with women. They are not women, women are women. It’s not hurting their feelings, it’s telling the truth.

None of you gave a shit about women and girls sports until it gave you a reason to have a grievance against transwomen.

The only people I know who bring up this topic are female athletes and parents of daughters.

Republican men were bringing it up constantly and I would expect that to continue even after Trump bans trans girls in girl’s sports because Republicans would melt away if they didn’t have something to be angry about. People still talk about Lia Thomas and she hasn’t swam in 2.5 years. Republicans talk more about trans people than trans people do.

Then it's good that Democrats are finally talking about trans men. Trans men do not spark joy in the electorate despite Kamala's beliefs.

this is also false. the dems actually did not run on progressive identity issues at ALL. find me one democratic ad that did. go on, i'll wait.

Doesn't matter if you campaign on identity issues when it's perceived that those issues are the true agenda of the Democratic party.

This. Dems did nothing to counter the perception.

Yup. They tried to communicate about policy about real issues, not fight the relentless misinformation machine.

If it’s such a small portion of the country, why is my HR dept DEMANDING that I start including my pronouns on company emails and correspondence?

Because I don’t understand why I need to do that for such a small portion of the country.

I’ll take “things that didn’t happen” for $100.

But if it’s true, what’s the big deal??? Why is asking people to be respectful of everyone too much to ask????

It absolutely IS happening to me right now. A major media company based in northern Virginia is demanding that all employees- thousands of them all over the country- include their pronouns on all company email signatures.

So we want to be respectful of “everyone”? And what happened to being respectful to ME, who doesn’t want to engage in pronoun silliness?

Sounds like you’d be thrilled to sign off she/her so you can more clearly let everyone know you’re not “one of them”.

Signing off with she/her is forcing me to be "one of them" against my will. DP.

Your life must be very #blessed if this occupies so much of your brain space and brings this much anxiety.

They voted against the perception that Dems prioritize fringe issues and criticize/cancel anyone who doesn’t agree.

They voted against Democrats and the handouts given to newly arrived immigrants.

They voted against all sorts of things that Dems should have acknowledged and shifted messaging on.

We suck at messaging.

My two cents: the racial reckoning that needed to happen post-George Floyd went waaaaay too far, centering everything in racism. The end result was a new kind of cancel culture that essentially divided us instead of uniting us. And here we are: weeks away from another Trump administration.

John Oliver is just a comedian who gets paid to entertain. He’s not a brilliant political strategist. Bill Maher has been saying what Dem campaign managers and voters need to wrap their head around.

Absolutely correct.

I had more black friends and acquaintances in the late 80’s-early 2000’s than I have now. We have regressed to essentially the early twentieth century in terms of interracial friendships now. It’s so depressing.

This is interesting...I remember in college (2005) having a spirited discussion with a black girl on my floor about interracial dating (she was vehemently against it.) We had some fascinating conversations that two white and black 19 year olds these days would probably not be able to have out of fear.

This whole post is way off the mark. Democrats lost the election for "multiple reasons" -- that being said, one of the reasons is this:

A culmination of cancel culture, extremist DEI and woke culture, pronoun nonsense, social constructs not based on science.

I am disgusted by all the cancel culture, especially in regards to JK Rowling and I actually am a bigger fan of hers simply because she continues to stand her ground. Good for her! Recent Article below - I'm so proud of her.
https://www.newsweek.com/jk-rowling-politics-...omens-rights-1983654

They lost the election because people don't like this - and while too scared to voice it for fear of career damage and society cancelling - they were not scared to vote [or not vote or vote third party] accordingly and that's a big reason Trump won.

I recently went to an indie bookstore to buy the latest JK Rowling (writing as Robert Galbraith) book and was snootily told "we don't agree with her and do not carry her books." I said nothing but walked out of the store never to return. This is a woman-owned business and I was one of its first customers and bought hundreds of books from them. During the pandemic, I made cash donations so that they could pay their rent. I felt sick rather than angry that a woman I admired was so narrow minded.

Thank you for sharing and proving my point. This is one (of many) reasons Harris lost. The DNC has tied itself to this extremist cancel culture mindset. Then they turn around and blame this on "low info voters" and continue to deny deny deny. I regret voting for Harris because I am now seeing just how obtuse and "low info" the Democratic party truly is.

But you’re ok with a baker not selling a wedding cake to a gay couple? What can’t a bookstore owner decide which books she wants to seek and which authors she wants to support?

Actually, I don't care about either. I simply ordered the book from Amazon at a lower price and with free shipping. Despite the bookstore owner's principled belief that the author's work did not merit a place on her shelves, the book has been a best seller. The other booksellers clearly lack the moral superiority of the bookstore owner, the same moral superiority that lost the election for the Democrats.

I don’t think this is why Kamala lost.

Honestly, it was a combo of all the social stuff together.

And this combo is why many decided to not vote at all or simply vote third party.

Do you think by voting red all the pervasive transgender kids taking over your high schools will cease to exist?

Sure, the bookstore owner has the right not to carry an author's books, but it's why she chooses to do so. Because the bookstore owner was brainwashed into thinking that just because someone disagrees on allowing minors to use blockers she's automatically labeled anti-trans. That is why it is wrong.

The DNC and Kamala didn’t cancel JK Rowling. You need to separate what the executive branch controls from changing culture. Kicking us all back to the 30s over it was dumb.

The DNC didn't come out and stand up against the idiotic cancel culture/gender identity politics/wars. They support it 100%. We all know they support it. We all voted accordingly...or voted third party, or didn't vote. Until you accept this and learn that you will have to start talking about it and ensuring that the DNC does not 100% align with this mentality then you will continue to lose.

And she’s ok with that. When business owners make decisions like this, they are perfectly fine with losing your business. You don’t need to lecture her about what a mistake she made. She has a target clientele and you are not it.

Exactly. great. We are stuck with a toddler man in the white house for 4 years but at least this non issue will stop being the big issue it never was.

Useless drama queens bring us all down for nothing. There have always been some transgender people and there always will be. Oh well.

If you're "pointing the blame at one specific demographic" for Democrats' losses in last week's elections, you're gravely "missing the mark," according to John Oliver.

The comedian tackled Kamala Harris' defeat during the most recent episode of Last Week Tonight, calling out supposed progressives who have turned against transgender people and blamed so-called "woke" issues for Donald Trump's win.

"It's telling how quickly some are jumping to predetermined conclusions that don't match the campaign that just wrapped up," Oliver said. "For instance, some Democrats are loudly claiming that the party needs to move to the center."

The host then referenced comments from New York congressman Tom Suozzi, a Democrat, who recently argued that "the Democrats have to stop pandering to the far left ... I don't want to discriminate against anybody, but I don't think biological boys should be playing in girls' sports." Other Democratic lawmakers have made similar claims in the wake of Harris' loss.

https://www.tiktok.com/@lastweektonighthbo/video/7437190944551669035

If you watch the clip, he is very forcefully rejecting the argument Suozzi made.

And he is forcefully wrong.

Anyone with school-aged kids knows this is not a small issue. It’s pervasive. Its in the schools, its in the doctors office, its everytime I fill out a form and get 13 choices for my child’s gender. I know I’m not the only mom who switched my vote to republican this year over it.

Just as one example, there are 5th graders at my kid’s school who identify as wolves and the other kids get in trouble if they use the term “furry” rather than “therian.” Meanwhile the few black kids at the school have been called racial slurs and rarely does anyone get in trouble…the admin seems totally clueless it’s even happening. This is in a purple state, with many Trump voters.

The sad and complicated truth, from someone who has been teaching 17 years, is that Trumpism has empowered kids and adults to say the “n-word” again. It disgusts me. It’s also absolutely true that the gender issue is pervasive, and Dems look dumb when they deny it. Another example…we have a HS state champion runner who is a trans girl, who keeps winning big, even though when she ran with the boys team she didn’t even place. Is it a huge deal to me personally? No. Would I vote for Trump because of it? No way.

But it IS happening and when Dems deny that it is, they piss people off. Plain and simple.

This +1000000000000000000
Even though I voted for Harris, barely, the denial I continue to see from the left is honestly disturbing....like, how obtuse can they be?

It all makes sense when you understand they have been initiated into a new religion that is run by a cult.

You just voted to decimate the entire government. You just voted for a sex offender and felon to run the country. You’re about to put a sex offender in charge of the DOJ and the DoD. You likely just voted for the last time - or at least the last time it will actually count in your lifetime. Congratulations, though. You really showed them!
