John Oliver slams Democrats who think transgender people lost them the election

I think the republicans did amplify the issue and use it to their benefit with some scaremongering. I think it helped drive some immigrants towards the right. It’s a subject that a lot of people find off-putting, including myself. I still voted Harris though. It would take a lot more than that for me to vote red.

Suozzi says Democrats lost votes for supporting ‘biological boys’ playing on girls’ sports teams

Fresh off his reelection for the 3rd Congressional District on Long Island, Rep. Tom Suozzi is advising Democrats against “pandering to the far left” or trying to be “politically correct” – while parroting a common Republican talking point used to fight against transgender protections.

In comments to The New York Times on Wednesday, Suozzi laid the blame for Donald Trump’s victory at the feet of left-wing activists who have fought for trans rights. “I don’t want to discriminate against anybody, but I don’t think biological boys should be playing in girls’ sports,” he said, adding that “Democrats should be saying this.”

On Thursday, Suozzi doubled down, suggesting that Democrats’ acceptance of trans girls playing on girls’ sports teams and embrace of other progressive causes had alienated voters. “While some Democrats effectively responded to Republican's claims of chaos at the Southern border, we still ceded too much ground to the Republicans on an issue we could have won,” he said. “And we failed as a party to respond to the Republican weaponization of anarchy on college campuses, defund the police, biological boys playing in girls' sports, and a general attack on traditional values.”

Allen Roskoff, president of the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, used even stronger language, calling Suozzi’s comments "disgraceful, bigoted and dangerous.” “Fuc$ him for saying that,” Roskoff told City & State, adding that he intended to call Suozzi about the comments. “People should not be bullying such a small minority of the population, and it's bullying of transgender youth, and it's a Republican talking point full of hate,” he said. Roskoff added that in his opinion, the future of the Democratic Party lies with progressives in the mold of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

You can't just not mention something or pretend during an election year. The people know what's up. They see what's up.

But many decided to vote third party or not vote at all based on this subject. That's why she lost.

This whole post is way off the mark. Democrats lost the election for "multiple reasons" -- that being said, one of the reasons is this:

A culmination of cancel culture, extremist DEI and woke culture, pronoun nonsense, social constructs not based on science.

I am disgusted by all the cancel culture, especially in regards to JK Rowling and I actually am a bigger fan of hers simply because she continues to stand her ground. Good for her! Recent Article below - I'm so proud of her.

They lost the election because people don't like this - and while too scared to voice it for fear of career damage and society cancelling - they were not scared to vote [or not vote or vote third party] accordingly and that's a big reason Trump won.

Twitter/X is not real life. I don’t care about JK Rowling. I don’t understand why anyone cares about her opinion on anything. Such manufactured outrage.

Not sure why you mentioned Twitter/X - FWIW I personally have never been on Twitter/X. The link I shared was Newsweek and I read/watch a lot of BBC and world news. It's not that we "personally" care about JK Rowling or her opinion.

What we care about is that she should have the absolute right to voice her opinion without being cancelled..without being slandered...without received death threats. You all still don't get it. I give up.

If you're "pointing the blame at one specific demographic" for Democrats' losses in last week's elections, you're gravely "missing the mark," according to John Oliver.

The comedian tackled Kamala Harris' defeat during the most recent episode of Last Week Tonight, calling out supposed progressives who have turned against transgender people and blamed so-called "woke" issues for Donald Trump's win.

"It's telling how quickly some are jumping to predetermined conclusions that don't match the campaign that just wrapped up," Oliver said. "For instance, some Democrats are loudly claiming that the party needs to move to the center."

The host then referenced comments from New York congressman Tom Suozzi, a Democrat, who recently argued that "the Democrats have to stop pandering to the far left ... I don't want to discriminate against anybody, but I don't think biological boys should be playing in girls' sports." Other Democratic lawmakers have made similar claims in the wake of Harris' loss.

If you watch the clip, he is very forcefully rejecting the argument Suozzi made.

And he is forcefully wrong.

Anyone with school-aged kids knows this is not a small issue. It’s pervasive. Its in the schools, its in the doctors office, its everytime I fill out a form and get 13 choices for my child’s gender. I know I’m not the only mom who switched my vote to republican this year over it.

Allen Roskoff, whoever that is, sounds like an idiot. I'm glad Suozzi didn't apologize for his remarks or pander to the left. He's absolutely correct and stating these facts doesn't make him (or anyone else) a "bigot". There were many reasons Dems lost, but this is one of them.

If John Oliver is arguing that Suozzi is wrong over this commonsense statement, then John Oliver is a moron.

Kamala’s loss is almost entirely about the transgender issue, although not really the sports aspect. The reason conservatives in the media love to harp on the sports angle is because it’s the ultimate gotcha for liberals. Defending it is almost impossible and it makes the left look absurd.

Anyone who thinks the future of the party is AOC and Bernie Sanders should not be taken seriously. For one thing, Sanders almost 90 years old, so he’s the future of nothing. And AOC could never get elected to a statewide office in the state of NY. Democrats also need to stop listening to celebrities. It is hard to take this stuff seriously.

John Oliver comes across as religiously insane in that, like an evangelical. Just the body language, the fervent religiosity, the absolute believe in his own rightness: it’s all remarkable. If you turned the volume off, and substituted graphics having to do with the evangelical Christians, you could not tell the difference based on body language. It’s quite something.

Wait till you start touring colleges and at every school the college administrators begin with announcing their pronouns. Every breakout group we participated in began the same way.

It’s utterly depressing to realize that unless I send my daughters to some fundie college, I have absolutely no choice but to spend 200k+ to have this idiocy normalized to my kids by the adults that they hold in high esteem.
