The debate

Neither of the candidates involved has much to gain from it: neither is a great public speaker, neither has great policy ideas, and there are relatively few undecided voters who can be convinced either way this year. It might convince a few double-haters (of which I am one) to vote one way or another, but it just seems unlikely to benefit one candidate or the other (which is why I am surprised that one or both has not cancelled it).

Does anyone really think that this has the potential to change anyone's views (short of a candidate saying something monumentally stupid or collapsing on stage or something)?

I really disagree with this.

We all thought the same thing about the Trump=Joe showdown in June and look what happened there.

Hoping (praying) that tonight is the end of Kamala. It very well could be if Trump stays on message. Her only hope is that Trump damages himself.

A Trump campaign aide has entered the chat.

So? It's better than the many illiterate bots who seem to be populating this discussion.

Short of being a Republican, what could she or any other Democratic woman candidate do to capture the male vote?

If they have wives and daughters they’ll likely vote accordingly. I do think the alarming number of male (and female) republican representatives endorsing her will capture enough male votes. Recently, Dick and Liz Cheney. W not endorsing Harris proves, yet again, that he’s the loser he always was. Tied with Trump as the dumbest President in history.

No. They won't.

This is what you simply do not understand. Not everyone lives and dies on the hill of abortion.

Maybe Trump should bring some of Harris’ former staffers and have them talk about why they quit and why Harris is so horrible to work for.

Which is? She picked a great mus western male as running mate.

Male identification with the Democratic party is about 23%. That is incredibly low. Compare it to 33% of women identifying as Republicans.

You better get out there boys and vote because there is an avalanche of female voters that disagree with your politics for very very good reasons. And the women are highly motivated to vote. Women have outvoted men in every election since 1980 and this year that will be obviously supercharged.

They are not wrong boys. Vote Harris. The economy will be much better under Harris and it will be easier to pay for that gym membership. Plus you will not be stomping on the interests of your moms and sisters and daughters and friends, relatives and neighbors etc.

What can’t she keep any staffers? Why did member of the Biden administration have no confidence in her? Biden was basically running because no one trusted Kamala or thought she could win the election.

It's beyond abortion. It's about mothers bleeding out in ER parking lots and no access to birth control. And R women like their IVF just as much as D women.

It's not about abortion, it's about LOSING rights. First they came for our uterus but I did not speak up because I was not a woman...

Those who say Trump won't enact some of his extreme policies, abortion is a reminder that we also didn't think that would happen and now we have women bleeding out in parking lots and 10 year olds having their rapists babies.

It is you that doesn’t understand. For starters, the hill as you call it is about reproductive rights, bodily autonomy, and healthcare. Trump’s daughter had an abortion, but she’s oh but I’m soooo pro life now. Responding to you was the least productive thing I’ve done today.

It’s not just women’s reproductive health (though I’d imagine most men don’t want their spouses/partners/significant others to be killed or maimed unnecessarily).

It’s bigger than that.

MAGA clearly wants to drag us back to a time when women had fewer rights and didn’t compete for jobs, college spots, money, power.

Most men want the women and girls in their lives to be fully realized human beings who are fun and exciting to be with.

If you don’t want to hang with a ballbuster don’t, but no need to vote for the troglodyte party.

Did this actually help either one of them, though? It certainly did not help Biden. Arguably, it did not help Trump, either, since he ended up with a different (and arguably superior) opponent.

SPOILER.ALERT: This is a much different debate. Biden was called by some sharpest he had ever been prior to the debate. Pretty much all media thought different the next day. This one will be lacking any real substance and Trump people will think he won and Harris people will think she won. We will forget about this debate by next week at the latest.

Do you seriously want to compare Trump turnover with Harris turnover?

There is one poster here who sees the world only through her abortion colored glasses.
