Or people who are always on their earbuds and wear their earbuds 99% of the time, so you can't even tell if they can hear you at all. It's such an annoying, primarily male habit. Any conversation whatsoever requires effort to get their attention, a long pause while they turn it off, then they go "whaaat?". It's tedious and it's a way that they avoid interacting.

Where. I know a couple of places that are really good. Depending on where you live I’d point you in the right direction. One is a larger barn with schooling horses, has boarding and options to show if you ever get into that. Adult only groups for beginners and advanced alike. If you’re a male there are other male riders here that are beginners, intermediate and advanced. If you’re a female there is of course plenty of female riders.

The other one is smaller but a trainer I’ve known for a long time who lives, breaths and sleeps horses and she’s a good trainer with a small contingent of adult riders of different skill levels. I know the riders there too and they’re all mostly nice.

If you’re looking really far out I know of places in The Plains/Middleburg area that are ok. And if you want to give a hand at fox hunting I know another place.

DP. I'm looking for suggestions coming from Burke. COTH was not helpful and I never found a lesson program that worked for me.

Try riding the metro and see how many females have earbuds in the entire time. Or anywhere else in public for that matter.

Indeed, a lot of what I have to say is not that interesting. But I'm not willing to do all of the parenting and all of the chores myself while never speaking to my husband, so what choice do I have? He's got the children trained that getting his attention will be a tedious chore in itself, so they come to me for everything, and it's unfair to me and to them.

What is COTH?

Chronicle of the Horse forums. They were useful in the early 2010s but less so today, hence why I'm still on the lookout for a barn with decent school horses without a soul-crushing drive.

If you’re in Burke there isn’t one far from you just down off 66. They have an adult lesson program on Sundays . You can register online or better yet sign up and do an evaluation with the head instructor so they can place you in one of the groups.

You can book both online and they’re very responsive and will get back to you. And it’s probably a 30 min drive from you
