I’m a woman and I have hobbies, but I am flexible and my hobbies don’t take time or resources away from my family. When I am training for a race, I will run at 5am instead of 6:30am if I need to in order to make it to my child’s soccer game. My husband likes backpacking and camping. He goes away 3-4 weekends a year and I know the dates and plan ahead.

It’s not about what the hobbies are, it’s that some men won’t dial back the hours they spend on their hobbies or shift their schedule once they become homeowners and parents. It’s all about balance. It’s good for men to have friends and maintain relationships. It’s also not ok for them to always put those commitments ahead of the needs of their family.

Completely agree!

This. It's the entitlement to tons of hobby time, and entitlement to the family calendar revolving around the hobby. Any hobby is unacceptable if that's how you are about it. And I say that as a person with niche hobbies that I am obsessed with.

How about owning and flying your own small private plane?

Motorcycles are a red flag.

Why? I'm a rider.

Come on you know why. People don't notice well behaved and same motorcyclists on the road. They notice the idiots wearing minimal safety gear swerving in and out of lanes on their sport bikes, knowing they're on borrowed time. That's the perception of motorcycling people are left with.

Im sorry I know it's a generalization, but every women I've ever met who owned a horse has been very self-involved and completely out of touch with reality in regards to money and budgeting.

I’m a horse guy and I stayed away from dating most horse girls. I love them as friends, not dating so much. Which is hard because a lot of them are attractive but they’re also no dating material for me at least.

And while there is plenty of gay male riders there is more straight ones than you think.

Non-horse female here looking for a horse guy. Where do we go to find all the straight guys who ride?

You don’t want a straight horse guy. They are a rare commodity and therefore used to punching way above their weight among horse girls. 99.9% are complete AHs to date. I swore them off and married a guy who thinks it’s cool that I ride, and never quibbles about the expense or time.

He knew what he was getting into, I had 4 horses when we got married.

Dealbreaker.

I’ll add homebrewing/wine tasting/mixology/whiskey collecting…any hobby focused on alcohol. (I’m an ACOA and a teetotaler).

When I first dated my DH, he was obsessed with golf and pickleball, and he literally played them every day. He also wanted me to be part of his life, so he got me to take private lessons in both, and I was addicted to them after we got married. Both our son and daughter also play both, and they are quite good at them. If you can't fight them, join them.

+1 and motorcycle, watching motor sports. I'm the aggressive biker, runner, hiker everyone here is complaining about. DH doesn't has to be into these sports but he has to be ok with it. On the other side I have no problems with bird watching, fishing or hobby farming.

So you can obsessively do whatever you want to do and your husband may do whatever you approve?

You are a control freak and a nightmare.

I judge people who feel this way as having a small brain. It is a stupid take. Wait until in game betting becomes mainstream. People born today will wonder why we watched others play sports w/o it

I watch sports when my teams play, otherwise not interested. I can’t just watch to watch.

I do get passionate about sports from my home state or town though. I even coach so yeah, really into it.

I find people who lack any passion are usually boring and not very intelligent . And no, your photography “business” and instagram isn’t a hobby, it’s a time waster. At least if I’m watching football at home I’m not wasting money.

But to each their own.

I'm a female who enjoys a wide range of sports. I have interests and hobbies and my husband initially tolerated them but as we've gotten older, he enjoys several as well. I have hobbies because I love to learn.

Golf can be incredibly enjoyable. It is hard to get good at though. If the course isn't crowded and you aren't rushed it can be relaxing and fun.

I am the rider. And I agree with you, but those men tend to be younger though. I am 49 and I ride responsibility and also wear safety gear, but I do enjoy seeing from time to time. Motorcycles are sadly built in a way that they can't really be driven slowly.
