Congratulations to David Blair!!!

I encourage everyone in Montgomery County who can do so to vote in person at early voting this fall or on election day in November and to not request a mail in ballot. For all the reasons discussed above, the system as it exists now for mail in and provisional ballots (which includes when a voter requests a mail in ballot but then shows up in person to vote) cannot handle this volume in a timely manner.

Absolutely incompetent. No excuse for missing statutory deadlines.

Nobody has missed a statutory deadline. The 10 day requirement is to recieve votes, not count them. They closed the receipt of all mail in votes at 10am yesterday. All is good.

So, they can take the next six months to count the votes?

That’s a polite way of saying that the county BOE is a reflection of the overall competence of the county government.

Hahah, Tad thinks Frederick, AA, and WASHINGTON County are big counties?

UMBC: Do better.

Never fails that the smug responses are the most ill informed and ignorant.

Anne Arundel has the 4th largest population is Maryland. Frederick is 7th. There are 23 counties + Baltimore City.

Ranking doesn't matter. Population count does. AA is half of MoCo, and Frederick is only 1/4.

You thing “big” is an objective measure? Bless.

Nobody said big other than you. Numbers matter and impact the time needed to complete tasks. Basic algebra.

Reading comprehension also matters.

I guess I technically could wait in line but to be completely honest, I don't feel comfortable going up and voting like that.

Voting in person is no more dangerous than going to the grocery store. There was no line at our polling place.this time around. We were in and out in 15 minutes. November will be more crowded but if you go during off hours to early voting you'll be fine.

If you are more likely to vote if you request a mail in ballot, do that. But if you feel committed to voting, do it in person if you can.

And my drop box ballot for Blair hasn’t been counted yet either. See how that works ?
Anecdotal

Not really, most of the Repulican's that switched to Democrats to vote for Blair would have voted in person I think?

NP here. Don’t understand the logic of that. I switched my registration and voted for Blair and placed it in the drop box. Why on earth would I have been more likely to vote in person, especially in this f’ed up county ?

I don’t think so. We had an unprecedented number of mail ins. Many of those are likely because people knew they would be out of town - vacation, visiting family, etc.

Same here. Neither my husband’s nor my ballot has even been counted yet.

Thanks for the reminder that every vote really does count.

Unfortunately that was Friday’s count. Maryland Board of Elections still hasn’t updated for Saturday. They only counter about 4,700 votes. But that still could change things. The MoCo BOE will be counting again today (Sunday). No idea if the state workers are even in. Maybe we have to wait til Monday.

New totals just posted show them only 21 votes apart:

Blair 47,980
Elrich 47,959

Thank you for posting and doing the math. My eyes are playing tricks on me at this point.

By my math (which is a bit questionable), there have been 122K (approx) votes counted in the Democratic election for County Exec. About 48.5K are in the Mail-In/Provisional category. I know there were 8000 provisional votes cast (of course, not all were D). Can anyone cite the total Mail In number? And if anyone can divide any of these numbers by party, then extra bonus points for you!
