I agree. But the parents are responsible for a medieval, boys-first, girls-second, system such that girl children do not always complain of abuse, and when they do, they are either not believed, or told it's no big deal, or worse - that they "provoked the boy with their female wiles", and that it's actually their fault! As has happened to many such girls in fundamentalist communities... |

I sure don't feel sad for her. She's know about his proclivities all along, starting before they were even married. She's his ride or die, an enabler who will sell out her own kids for him and who has rebuffed multiple offers to get her to leave. She's complicit. |
I have a distinct lack of empathy here, but I do believe his family truly believes, or has convinced themselves, that he is innocent of these charges. |
Thank you for posting this. |
It is up to the judge - the judge can order him to serve concurrent sentences or consecutive. Concurrent means he serves both 20 year sentences at the same time and consecutive means they are "stacked." I would find it surprising if he gets two 20 year consecutive sentences, but I don't really have the legal background or federal practice experience to say that. My understanding is that this is his first prosecuted offense. I think the fact that he previously sought counseling and that this is a possession offense versus actual commission of sexual assault will be mitigating factors. He will lose any appeal. |
Thank goodness the Feds in this case took this seriously, because have you looked at their work in the Jeffrey Epstein case? |
Anna was one of 8 children, had a strict minister father, was home-schooled and married off at 20. IMO opinion she was somewhat brain-washed herself so I do feel some sympathy for her. |
It is highly unlikely that Anna is going to "come to her senses." The Duggars aren't the Southern Baptists you went to high school with. This is a very entrenched and reinforced belief system from both her own family of origin, her husband's family (to include most of the 18 siblings) and her community. Your/the normal societal reaction to this conviction is not going to be the Duggar reaction (I am too lazy to look up their crazy church). Once all the appeals are done if a couple of years look for the interview where both he and she blame his actions on the devil (or something similar), she reaffirms her commitment to him, and whole lot of talk about Jesus and forgiveness. |
And yet, all the other brainwashed fundies passed on marrying off their daughters to him when they knew about his raping his sisters. Those same people have come forward and offered to get her away from Josh and the family at multiple points. As crazy as I think they all are, I think her actions at this point go beyond her upbringing into the inexcusable. I also think she LOVES being "fundie royalty." |
True but his children, all 7 of whom are under the age of 11, will not forgive him for being missing from their lives for the next two decades. They will grow up entirely without a father. |
+100 Her brother offered a way out, and she continued to have more kids with a pedophile. Sometimes, even women, can be terrible people and choose to put their kids in terrible situations. Anna is just as awful as Michelle - they're grown ass women who are incredibly privileged in many ways (media access, social media presence). I fear for her kids, but I have exactly zero sympathy for Anna. |
I don’t know anything about prison, but my understanding is that pedophiles are not well thought of in prison. I think whatever this Duggar’s name is kind of assumes that the special protection he has enjoyed his whole life is going to last into prison. |
Given the circumstances, I think that’s a good thing. He was a POS before he was caught with CSAM. |
I still do have some sympathy for her. I hope her brother keeps reaching out, but the kind of brainwashing committed upon girls and women vs boys and men in those fud-up fundie families are leagues different. |
