It could have happened to anyone, but gosh golly, it's so weird that it happens disproportionately more to Black people and in line with reported police violence against them. Such a strange coincidence. But definitely not racism by my super narrow definition that absolves the police of anything other than saying "I'm shooting this man because he is Black". Yeah we're not racist in America. |
This is why it's not myopically about one case. It's about a system. This doesn't happen to white people in rich neighborhoods. Not because they commit less crime. But because they aren't seen as unworthy of life. |
Honest question: have there been any attempts to track outcomes from comparable encounters with police? That is, when you look at situations where a white suspect as attempting to flee from an arrest, how much different are the outcomes than when a black suspect flees from police? |
You get your job back after a lethal mistake? The cop who killed Oscar Grant served time. |
Yes I think that could happen if she fought her firing (which has not happened yet). That other case was a murder case and there was no evidence to support going for the taser except the cops statement. Indeed cop said that Grant had a gun which makes going for the taser wrong. No such facts here. Not really similar. |
To be clear --- she will not be back. City would make a deal to undue firing and let her retire with of course back pay. If I am wrong and she is charged and convicted this will not happen but otherwise yes. |
Easy for you to say. You’re not the one dead. |
Thx for weighing in, always nice to get knowledgeable opinions. |
+1 Great explanation. Too bad this thread is full of justice warriors compulsively trying to make every situation about race. |
Yes. |
+2 Agree - great analysis. Also agree that all the “social justice warriors” do not care about justice. They only care about their own virtue-signaling and assuaging their own perceived guilt / trauma for whatever reason. |
Cop who investigates police shootings here. It was a mistake, she did not “intend” to shoot him. But she did not follow police procedures (keep tazer on opposite side of body) and her neglect caused a death. Procedures are in place so these things don’t happen. That is a crime. |
There is enough for you probable cause. I’d like to see her arrested and forced to go through the process at the very least. |
There is no basis for that. None. And it would be completely sexist. |
NP. This killer cop needs to be prosecuted and spend at least a few years behind bars. She definitely should never work as a police officer ever again given her gross lack of self-control and judgement. |
