I may have missed it, but didn't see this being discussed on any DCUM forums.
Mr. Daunte Wright was 20 years old. Allegedly, the police pulled him over because he had an air freshener hanging from his rear-view mirror. Apparently, that's illegal in MN. According to the police report, Wright got back into his vehicle before the police could arrest him on an outstanding warrant. An officer shot him and he drove several blocks before crashing. Wright died at the scene. https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/12/us/brooklyn-center-minnesota-police-shooting/index.html I'm an older Black man. I'm so sick and tired of America's police executing people who look like me. I'm as patient as they come, but enough is enough. We have to deal with this systemic problem, one way or another. |
| The article you linked conveniently leaves out what the outstanding warrant was for. |
That's no excuse for murder. Period. - NP |
Gross misdemeanor carrying a pistol without a permit and misdemeanor fleeing police from April 2nd when he didn’t show up to court. |
| I'm a little confused. Wouldn't it make more sense that they ran his plates, noticed he had an outstanding warrant, told him to pull over to get arrested for that, and then he fled calling his mom claiming it was for an air freshener? |
I'm OP. I don't know what the warrant was for, neither do I believe that is material. I know what your motive is for posting this, though. |
| It's my understanding that, regardless of your skin color, if an officer askes you do NOT do something, it's really best that you DONT do it. Don't run, don't refuse to get in the car, don't refuse to put your hands up. Just do what they ask you to do. It's the whole - "running" during an arrest / stop that gets folks in more trouble. |
Actually, it is material. What if it were for multiple murders, or kidnapping? As it turns out, however, this is another tragic situation. |
The reasons you've stated, or any reasons you can state, did not justify the police using lethal force on Mr. Wright. I know you understand this, but again, I know your motivation here. |
If the police were following up on his gun-crime warrant, and he suddenly dove into his car for something, - did the police have a reason to fear for their lives? |
Last night’s rioters did not wait before doing hundreds of thousands of $$ in damage, burning vehicles, etc. Let’s see if they will wait for facts tonight, or continue looting. The NG has been called in. |

Personally, I wish that people would stop framing the narrative as "He got killed for having air freshener." All it does it embolden the racists to bring up his legal issues.
The narrative should revolve around why has another black life taken by police and what can we as a society do to make it stop immediately. |
It is relevant. If he was wanted for murder for example, or several violent crimes, the Police can shoot as he is fleeing because he is a possible threat to the community at large. |
Nobody cares about the facts and the media won’t report them accurately in any event. It would seem that the primary motivation of these rioters is a free pair of sneakers, not social justice. |
| He is known to carry a gun without a lic and fled the Police.... |
