+1000 Somehow all the "He won, live with it" is fading, after Virginia, New Jersey, now Alabama. On to 2018. #resist |
I'm from Alabama.
My facebook feed is full of "Roll Tide" posts this morning. Made me a little teary, actually. And before someone decides to NCAAsplain "Roll Tide" to me, yes, it is clearly a bit of a nonsequitur, but we in Alabama understand what it means here. |
This is a HUGE win. People were still talking about basically conceding the seat during the primaries. A number of potential Dem candidates wouldn't run because they didn't think it was worth putting themselves out there. And then they found Doug Jones, who is a terrific candidate, and Roy Moore won the Rep primary, and ... game on. My father still talks about being the only person in his neighborhood with a Clinton/Kaine sign. When we were there for Thanksgiving, there were Doug Jones signs up and down the block in his white, UMC neighborhood, |
Roy Moore should be happy about all the votes that he got. Considering... |
Anyone saying that a 1-2% win isn't a big deal is just kidding themselves. Alabama is the reddest state in the country. Any Republican running for Senate should get 70+% of the of the vote. |
Ok...but what about closing the offices in predominantly minority districts where these ID's are obtained - which is what happened in AL? See...here is the rub. If you want to require a voter ID, then you need to make damn sure that everyone who needs one can get one EASILY. Requiring the ID and then putting up hurdles to getting them is prima facie voter suppression. |
Good post on why Republicans shouldn't assume Jones' win was an outlier.

This. I was just going to link to a single article, but this whole thread talks about the GOP shenanigans, Alabama edition. https://mobile.twitter.com/RVAwonk/status/940510156894425089 It's a lie, a flat lie, to say that "voter ID isn't suppression" when the people responsible for it SAY IT IS and then add additional hurdles to getting an ID! |
I'm good with Dems taking over, watching the stock market tank, etc. Sometimes I think that until liberals are kicked squarely in the head, they don't understand their own lofty 'goals'. I believe lots of democrats recognize this, which is why immigration is such a hot-button issue. Liberals won't even admit that the attempted bombing in NYC was due to their own policies, even when the guy was found still wired and screaming why he did it. |
I'm good with that but it needs to be managed properly. No problem with American citizens getting easily obtained voter IDs ONLY. Too many non-citizens have been voting. |
I agree hurdles must be lifted. I am dubious due to 2008 attempts to get State ID to one specific group of people in a very illegal manner in a state where the Senator won by 308 votes. |
You read that whole thread and you say "I'm good with that"? And LOL, no, no non-citizens have been voting. Americans have had their legal right to vote compromised however. But you're "good" with that so long as it's black Democrats. |
Pretty sure the attempted bombing was in reaction to Trump. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/n-y-subway-suspect-akayed-ullah-had-baby-son-june-n828671 |
He can't run after he's impeached. |
That's not how they spin it on FoxNews though...they probably say Hillary wired up the guy herself. ![]() |
