| Checked our PK3 spot at SWWFS (Francis Stevens) and we've moved about several spots (in the forties). Registrar says they're adding a new PK3 class as well as 2nd and 3rd grade, so there's still some hope. |
| Hi- I hadn't heard this before. Does this mean there will be three PK3 classes at SWWFS? |
| I think it means 2 PK3 classes and 2 PK3/PK4 mixed and one PK4. |
And the Mixed classes include low vision special Ed inclusion students so there are about 12 spots and they staff the room 3:1 or 4:1 depending on actual needs. |

For those of you anxiously looking for movement (I know I was), we gave up seats at Bridges, Seaton and Ludlow-Taylor this week for PS3 (busy phone call week, don't give up hope "shut out" waitlisters) for a non-lottery charter lucky draw.
I spent at least 90 minutes of touring time in each school in the last week, and am excited about the opportunities that each offer. I would have been beyond confident with each one if I hadn't been so lucky as to get into one of my top 2 choices. I feel grateful to have a choice, and I hope everyone is given the same. I particularly am encouraged by L-T. My final concern came down to the fact that we have a younger sibling, and I have a feeling that when his time came along, there would be no seat for him based on IB preferences. The school is a quiet gem, and I can't wait to see it (and all DCPS) blossom. |
Where are you going instead? |
Is Haynes year round for all grades? |
Yes, Haynes is year round for all grades. Year round at Haynes means 180 school days that are spaced out differently than traditional public schools. This is sometimes hard for families that have students in different schools (a different PCS and Haynes or a traditional public and Haynes), but otherwise, I hear 0 complaints about that in particular. Haynes will start the second full week in August. Two weeks off in October, same Thanksgiving and winter break as everyone else and 2 weeks off for spring break. There is intersession over the summer for 4 weeks, 2 weeks in October and 1 week at spring break. So, if you work, there is a place at school for the student to go (for a cost). We've had great intersession experiences and some not so great ones. - Parent of a Rising Kindergarten (We've been at Haynes since PK3) |
| Bridges PK 4 is up to near 50. |
| Got a call from Langdon for a K montessori spot. Turning it down. |
| We were contacted this morning for a 1st grade spot at I.T., our wait list number started above 20. We turned it down. |
| crickets. so stressful!! |
Curious why, if you're willing to share. We are looking at applying to Langdon Montessori for next year but don't know anyone there to trade notes with. |
Why'd you turn IT down? For where? Just curious. |
We've already enrolled at Creative Minds. |
