Should I report my neighbors for car tax evasion?

But tax evasion is theft. If everyone did it, we'd be screwed. Also in this specific instance, it's not just tax evasion -- refusing to register a car in your actual state of residence and to your actual address can also enable people to evade speeding tickets and toll violations.

I've reached an age where I do not care if people think I'm a busy body or a hall monitor. Tough shit. If I see you doing something wrong illegal, I'll go ahead and take the 10 minutes to report it to authorities. And then it can be your problem, like it should have been to begin with.

But you don't actually know it's illegal. You suspect they're evading taxes. You don't know that. I'm the PP who had a false report lodged against me for having out of state tags. I'm exempt. It's still really stressful to be investigated by your taxing authority. I was worried maybe I did something technically wrong and maybe I was in trouble. Ultimately I was exonerated and declared exempt, but damn do I really hate my neighbor for completely needlessly putting me through that during a particularly stressful time in my life.

My daughter got waitlisted and it pissed me off to no end that her crappy classmate got a spot when mine didint. So I called the school (anonymously) and told on her.

UVA pulled back her offer. Mine never got in but I'm sure whoever did get off the waitlist was more deserving than her drunk classmate.

Good on you OP!

I bet the girl was prettier, more popular, and more athletic than your daughter, too.

Sounds like you’re mad that your spawn wasn’t even as good as some crappy teenage drunk.

+1. You never know. The person who replaced her could be a drug addict who steals.

I mean, who cares? It doesn't matter. PP tanked the little drunk's life and I find it funny.

No one is suggesting the scofflaws pay more than the required minimum.

You are equating hiring a tax professional with cheating on or not paying your taxes. You need help.

You must use H&R Block.

Where is the car 183 days of the year.Where do you vote if a citizen.

I would report them but anonymously. Everyone is equal under the law. They may also be committing insurance fraud in addition to tax evasion. If everyone who moves does this, and they get the "benefit of the doubt" then where would this end?

The tags are also expired. So yes the OP knows it is illegal -- you aren't supposed to be driving around an unregistered vehicle.

There's only a snitch form for tax evasion, not expired tags. Report them for expired tags if you want to be so petty. Don't report them for tax evasion when you have no idea if they're exempt.

Absolutely not‼️ 😡
OP, these are your neighbors…..why would you INTENTIONALLY try to get them in legal hot water??!

Are you that miffed that they keep to themselves????
Anonymous
Absolutely you should.

You aren't a tax collector. This isn't bothering you - they aren't blocking your driveway or driving recklessly, let it go. it will catch up to them eventually.
