Asking CA politicians to use common sense vs following what is trendy. That’s a really, really big ask.

The MAGAs politicizing this tragedy are truly disgusting. Why do you hate your fellow countrymen so much just because they vote for democrats?

One massive issue brought up by the chief is that the number of firefighters has not increased in decades, but the incident calls have gone up by 50%. However, it’s long been known that the LA FD union strongly gate keeps who can become a firefighter. Even when I was growing up and still to this day, it’s widely known that you need to have a nepotism connection to get into the firefighting Academy. They also gatekeeper who can get into the training programs like EMT or volunteer search and rescue for your local community, that’s a precursor to getting into the firefighting Academy. The union likes the labor shortage because it means virtually unlimited overtime dollars. So I take heed with these complaints, has been strongly acting like a cartel in terms of its labor. Another issue is that looks like it. It’s heavily white and many of firefighters don’t even live in the state of California. Fly in from places like Idaho and Nevada to do their shifts and then they leave with their paychecks. If you’re familiar with the show, southern charm of the characters, husband is a California firefighter who lives in South Carolina! He flies in every other week to do his shifts up in Sacramento and then flies home. This is the root of the labor issue with the Los Angeles fire department and other fire departments in California.

Californian here who can confirm. This is accurate.

What's the problem with the fire fighters living in another state? It seems like a practical way to manage with a small salary (it looks like the top compensation is $124k per year which is peanuts for that area).

$124k plus OT means they are making much more than that, think $200K plus.

From the firefighters I know in between the rare periods of action there is a lot of sleeping, watching movies, eating chili and general naughtiness in the firehouse.

No one is flying in from Idaho for a measly $124K a year, they have fires in Idaho, It’s the OT and the perks.

In my line of work we call this a boondoggle.

I don't really see the issue with that. In the "rare action periods" they work, they save lives and homes, at the risk of their own. So if firefighting is so appealing and lucrative, we can all become firefighters and enjoy the high salaries and snacks and movies. You go first, because I'm not doing it!

Agree. As a democrat who grew up in North Carolina, the country really came together in empathy for those who lost homes and businesses. It's very sad to know that apparently the only real Americans are those who live in red states. Those in blue states don't merit our compassion.

Because the firefighters also strictly limit membership to keep the number of firefighters low, it means that in emergencies it is much harder to call in backups. Also, they don’t care about and aren’t invested in the communities.

They don’t actually understand politics or government. They just like the winner/loser WWF aspect that Newt Gingrich and cable news created.

There really needs to be consequences for you lefties being hard headed, stupid, and bringing everyone down through your lowest common denominator mentality.

I don't mean political consequences.

I really do hate my fellow countrycommunists.

So long as no money from California flows to red states, we can probably make a deal here. But the outstretched hands demanding California money while at the same time claiming superiority is too much.

Of course there is compassion. There’s also recognition that there were colossal policy errors in that democrat run state that contributed to this.

Democrats win elections. Then run everything in to the ground.

Well, someone above you posted this:
"There really needs to be consequences for you lefties being hard headed, stupid, and bringing everyone down through your lowest common denominator mentality.

I don't mean political consequences.

So, you know, while this may be a political debate game for you, you're creating division and hatred in other weak minded individuals who listen to you.

Division and hatred?

You mean like what the DNC has been doing for 50 years?

Politics aside, Ca is still a very desirable place to live, and full of wealthy people that will buy up any properties that go into default, and gladly pay the taxes. The value is in the land.

And, if there is a short term funding issue, Ca will simply sell more bonds, or raise the income tax rates. The wealthy people want to be there, and will pay for the privilege. All this did, was shake out the weak hands, in favor of more concentrated wealth.

Your beloved political parties have you gullible prea-brains right where they want you and that is so blinded by hate for the "other side" that you'll continue to support your perceived lesser of two evils no matter what. Wake up people.
