As a moderate democrat I yearn to form a coalition with independents and moderate conservatives. I really don’t care about the same things progressives care about.
I think Biden is the best chance of that. So if Gen Z stays home, all the better. Their concerns are a distraction. The 18-28 year olds have never been a traditionally strong voting block. NBD. |

I think we all need to head over to tiktok, and do our best to reach Gen Z on these issues.
They need to understand that one of these 2 men WILL win no matter how much we hate the two party system, so they need to vote for the one they hate the least. They need to understand that Trump will be so much worse than Biden with the Israel/Palestine war. I am seeing comments like “How hard is it to call for a ceasefire?” Ugh. They don’t understand how complicated this situation is and the history. They don’t understand what Biden can/can’t do. They need to understand that, although Biden’s attempts at border control haven’t panned out as well as we would like, he is trying and republicans are blocking him. We don’t want to go back to kids in cages, separated families, and government shutdowns over Trump’s “build a wall” hissy fit. We are preaching to the choir on dcum. The only way to reach Gen Z is on tiktok, so let’s go! |
And while you’re lecturing them about what “they need to understand” what do you expect to learn? How do you expect to change? How will you address their issues? Because lecturing isn’t a notoriously successful way of making young people do what you want. |
|
I don’t really share their values.
So I don’t want them engaged. I hope they stay home, because they are a distraction. I don’t want the democrats beholden to them. Spend the time and energy on never Trump conservatives and moderates. |
Because progressives are an extreme wing of the party that would cause a huge national backlash and swing back to the GOP. The absurd focus on "oppressors or oppressed" makes it impossible for anyone outside of academia or social media to take them seriously. But most of all, progressive views these days are incompatible with the working class which further pushes that voting bloc to the right |
Call it lecturing, I don’t care at this point. Go to TikTok and search these issues. The lack of understanding is astonishing. They think Biden has the authority to simply end any war by saying so. I know that this age bracket doesn’t typically turn out to vote, but they did last time and helped Biden win. Democrats need the youth vote as the republicans need the boomers. |
Because the leaders in our major parties craft their messaging to use fear above all else to coerce people into continuing to vote for their substandard candidates. This is an easier path to maintaining their stranglehold on American politics than welcoming America's best and brightest to compete in legitimate primary and general elections. The American people are always asking for change and for the swamp to be drained while the last thing our party leaders and their wealthy donors want are the unknowns that come along with candidates chosen by the people in legitimate elections. Guess who gets their way?........ not the American people. |
Do you have Gen Z children? |
If they want to remain stupid and get their news from TikTok then let them be. |
I mean, Democrats deprived these kids of an education for two years. This is what is typically called “natural consequences.” |
No, you don’t get to just sit there and issue threats. Vote or don’t. No one has to pander to you entitled whiners. Get off your lazy behinds and work instead of expecting everything on a platter. |
You mean when Trump was president the dems over ruled him and forced the schools to close? You must be very happy they legalize drugs. |
|
You know who votes against their own interests? Lots of Boomers. Voting for the GOP as they age is the definition of dumb. I hope Gen Z shows up to vote. I think many of them are more engaged than previous generations.
-Gen-Xer here |
Trump didn’t order the schools closed. That was a local decision. School closures were driven by unions which back blue politicians. In the end this is a FAFO moment for Democrats and labor. They created this profoundly mal-educated voter group, they’ll have to deal with the consequences. |
|
I think there is a real chance for a 3rd party candidate (not the ones already declared but a new voice).
