FCPS not following the new state models

I don’t understand how FCOS can get away with not following the new models?

" Each school board shall adopt policies that are consistent with but may be more comprehensive than the model policies developed by the Department of Education pursuant to subsection A."

It's not hard to be more comprehensive than the state model. If you look at what the law requires of the VDOE model, the FCPS version is more comprehensive on most points.

As opposed to republicans focusing on those issues? Has the VDOE released any plan to deal with a decline in SAT scores and over crowding, surely they haven't been preoccupied with just pushing kids back into the closet? Have the republican Candidates for the board released a plan, or are you just holding democrats to different standards? I guess you can just provide a link to the republican plan that surely exists

Exactly. Republicans don’t offer solutions, just discourse and bigotry.

The solution is the vdoe model.

PP posted about SAT decline and overcrowding- how exactly does the VDOE model address either?

If you just follow the freaking model, fcps can stop spending all their time and resources on this nonsense and spend time actually addressing academics.

So what is the republican plan to address academics? Did VDOE waste all of their time on this model, or do they have a plan to address academics? PP was really concerned about SAT scores- what is the republican plan there? What is their plan to address the overcrowding PP was concerned about? Surely the republicans candidates aren't doing the same thing PP accused a democratic candidate of doing? Or this this one of those issues where democrats are accused of wasting time and not focusing on something because it's much easier to make that accusation than to actually have a plan.

The model would require FCPS to spend MORE time on this nonsense.

Youngkin should stop trying to hurt vulnerable kids to score political points with his bigoted base and just let the school districts get back to the school year.

Fixed it for you

FCPS should stop trying to assist vulnerable kids to keep secrets from their parents to score political points with their progressive base and let the teachers teach the kids instead of "mold" them into the current agenda.

Still waiting to hear what the republicans have to say about SATs and overcrowding. I'm guessing it will be awhile

I think the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues. Reminder: it is the SB who has focused on the social issues and made dramatic changes in the way schools work.

For example: biological boys will now be in FLE with girls. How does this make sense? Maybe, just have the trans kids skip this part.

If you read the new policy--teachers are no longer supposed to have boys and girls line up separately. Sure, you can say "everyone in red" get here and "blue" there. But, it is a ridiculous requirement and really unnecessary.

It seems that, in FCPS, the whole structure is being transformed to bow to the Trans community.

But, nothing holds a candle to keeping information from parents.

Comprehensive means more stringent and detailed, the fact that parents are optional for fcps but required by the state, makes vdoe more comprehensive and fcps less comprehensive. So fcps is violating the law.

Start a new topic, that has nothing to do with this. The point is made that overwhelming effort and funding by the school board is away from education

Ok, real honest question for those pushing back on Reid's email--Let's say there is a child in 6th grade classroom at your elementary school who has fully socially transitioned from male to female. By all outward appearances, this child looks female. Parents are on board, have signed whatever is required for their child to be addressed by a chosen name and she/her pronouns. The child is not disruptive, asks for no special treatment beyond the norm for any child in the room, and does not engage in any outward advocacy.

In this scenario, what do you see as the problem? What is the concern with that child simply being accepted as they are and being treated like everyone else?

I ask this because I feel like this issue is so often framed as an abstract idea as opposed to being about real children sitting in real classrooms being taught by real teachers. I'm trying to imagine what it would look like to deny that child's (and by extension, their parents') right to be the person they believe themselves to be. How is that less disruptive to the educational environment you say you are focused on that simply accepting the, as they are and focusing on learning?

I envision more lawsuits in FCPS future. Great use of funds.......

How in the world did we ever get by for centuries without puberty blockers and sex change surgery?

Read the regulation. It was linked on the first page of this thread.
