CogAT score is here

Is the scores are below 125 or do there is no point applying. So, it’s important for parents to see the scores, at least 2 weeks before the application deadline.

Based on the AAP report from a few years ago, kids with scores as low as 101 (or maybe it was 99) have gotten in, so...?

It really isn't important to see the scores. Kids get admitted with scores much lower than you would expect. Most kids with scores above a 120 that also have a high GBRS, strong work samples, and are above grade level on DRA get accepted. Some kids with composite CogAT below 120 who are supported by the school get in. My DD's BFF got in with a high GBRS and a CogAT composite of 118.

If you think your kid is smart, you should refer no matter what the scores are. Your kid might get in with scores that you assume are too low. If the kid doesn't get in, it's still good to have the local school committee discuss your child and show interest in advanced academics. The local committee picks kids for principal placement, LIII, and advanced math, so it's helpful to put your kid on their radar. If the scores end up being very low, applying gives you a chance to get a WISC and be ready to appeal. You can't appeal, though, if you didn't apply in the first place.

Usually those kids have a WISC that counters a low score.

How can anyone know the identity of anyone who posts on DCUM? We all are anonymous here, correct?

Would I be outing myself if I said that my kid is Larle?

Or they Principal Placed kids at a Title I school. They never connected the various scores to the various schools. I seriously doubt that the kids at ES in McLean ES have lower CogAT scores.

Still no scores. I’m stressing about the referral packet and now want to know the scores. It’s been a long wait.

Why are you stressing about the referral packet? My AART said I had until late January to submit parent provided samples, gave me ideas of what to submit, and told me that if I didn’t submit, the school would submit two more. What is there to stress about?

What year are you living in? The deadline for parent referral submission is Dec 15, 2021.

How does it work for kids who are in-pool but the parents didn't refer them? Does the school send home the parent questionnaire and ask for 2 samples from home? If PP is speaking about the deadlines for this academic year and is telling the truth, maybe their kid already qualified via NNAT? Either way, bad advice for anyone who needs to parent refer or plan to parent refer because they don't have CogAT results and aren't already in pool.

No. If parents don't submit anything by December 15, then the parents don't submit anything. For students who are in-pool, the school will put together a packet.

More or less, yeah. My school sent the parent questionnaire in the same envelope as the in-pool letter, with instructions to please fill it out and return it. They didn't care about the 2 samples, but they wanted a completed questionnaire for each in pool kid.

It will depend on the school. Our kid was in pool and all we got was a letter that he would be automatically screened. They did not send home the questionnaire. We looked it up ourselves and filled it out.

When we got that letter, we never filled it out. DS was accepted with just the school packet.
