Why will FCPS hold the cogat results? But if one by school has it then all other schools also have the scores. Is the scores are below 125 or do there is no point applying. So, it’s important for parents to see the scores, at least 2 weeks before the application deadline.
It really isn't important to see the scores. Kids get admitted with scores much lower than you would expect. Most kids with scores above a 120 that also have a high GBRS, strong work samples, and are above grade level on DRA get accepted. Some kids with composite CogAT below 120 who are supported by the school get in. My DD's BFF got in with a high GBRS and a CogAT composite of 118. If you think your kid is smart, you should refer no matter what the scores are. Your kid might get in with scores that you assume are too low. If the kid doesn't get in, it's still good to have the local school committee discuss your child and show interest in advanced academics. The local committee picks kids for principal placement, LIII, and advanced math, so it's helpful to put your kid on their radar. If the scores end up being very low, applying gives you a chance to get a WISC and be ready to appeal. You can't appeal, though, if you didn't apply in the first place.
