There is no proposed calendar yet, so there is nothing for the public to comment on yet. There will be an update in March.

Is there any reason to think we might start earlier than Aug 30 this year? I'm trying to plan a trip with my in-laws (after 2 years not seeing them), and rentals are so much easier to find in the second half of August.

I’m almost positive that it will be August 30th but am still holding off on booking. I think they will be releasing a draft next month. since they want to approve it in March. He place we stay at is mom-refundable.

I really don’t think it will start earlier than 8/30. March isn’t enough notice to move the school year earlier.

What's your source?

Right about now I’m so envious of the families who are able to telework and homeschool their kids...it’s exhausting having to wait on decisions that other people make...

Maybe you are looking at Montgomery County in VA. They start on the 2nd week of August.

As the pandemic surges and vaccination is just starting, I don't think they can really commit to anything for next fall yet. Or if they do, it'll have a yuge asterisk next to it.

What surge are you talking about? Cases are plummetting

On the other hand, this would be a good year to start two weeks before labor day on 8/23. The school system was moving in that direction before Hogan's dictate about starting after Labor Day. Many other school systems start earlier in August. An earlier start means more time to prepare for late May testing season and would either allow ending 2 weeks after Memorial day (that 3rd week is a waste) or allowing more flexibility around breaks, depending on how holidays fall and whether there are elections.

Personally, I'd prefer an earlier start (as both a parent and a teacher). It aligns better with the colleges. Ideally, I'd like to see us get closer to the semester idea where the first semester ENDS before winter break.

Teachers, particularly those in high school, prefer an earlier start date. It give more days of school prior to AP exams.

Have any teachers heard anything about summer school hiring or dates that might provide some clues? Any more on the above rumor about school restarting second week of August?
