| Has there been any discussion about next year’s calendar? Just wondering if there’s a possibility they will consider starting earlier to make up for lost time this year... |
| Next year's calendar won't be discussed until March. (This was in one of the Policy Management Committee meetings prior to the Nov. 10 BOE meeting.) |
| Not gonna happen. They will wait to try to get as many staff vaccinated as possible. |
Curious if anyone has heard the board or whatever refer to next year, ideally in terms that suggest they are committed to starting in person no matter what? (Fingers crossed) |
Wow. March sounds late for planning purposes. Especially for staff and teachers! |
It is late, but I actually think waiting to decide makes a lot of sense in this case. Hopefully by March the numbers will look much different, we’ll have a good sense of how the vaccine distribution is making progress, and we can make a realistic plan for next school year. |
As the pandemic surges and vaccination is just starting, I don't think they can really commit to anything for next fall yet. Or if they do, it'll have a yuge asterisk next to it. |
I was thinking it sounded late for planning FOR staff and teachers. As in, what staff and teachers will each school need--for the regular school year, any summer programs, etc. |
Teachers don't get paid in the summer. If school staff finds out in March, that is plenty of time to know and plan. By March, hopefully we'll have a better idea on if starting early would be beneficial, like starting in early August like many schools in the South or starting second/third week of September to allow more time for people to get vaccines if they end up getting rolled out to the population in June/July. Now, counting on the BOE and Jack Smith to make a good decision on the 2021-2022 calendar by March, is probably not likely. |
| Heard one of the proposals is a second week of August start date. Is there a place to comment on the proposed schedule? I know they postponed decisions, but was there one that was proposed? |
That would suck. We don’t have a lot going on these days but like many families are hoping to get away to a socially distanced vacation of some sort. August is prime time for that for many of us working folk. |
What's your source? |
Right about now I’m so envious of the families who are able to telework and homeschool their kids...it’s exhausting having to wait on decisions that other people make... |
My guess is that they're going to have expanded summer school this year to help kids with credit recovery/missing content and skills. |
Where are you hearing this proposal from? you had one numbskull posting the Montgomery county Virgina's calendar and trying to pass it off as mcps MD's calendar. in any case I anticipate that they will probably start around the same time as last year but will have expanded summer school to make up for kids missing so much content during this year |
