That is not from the MCPS in Maryland.

This is MoCo Virginia (Blacksburg area). Their proposed 21-22 school year ends May 20, out of curiosity have we ever had a schedule that started in August and ended before Memorial Day?

Not that I recall. I have a high schooler and lots of August starts but always a June end.

Yeah, in case there was any doubt: I don't think it's likely we're getting a half-day for Virginia Tech football games.

This board is not proving itself well on the rumors. Back to the political board.

The real scandal - How did a small district beat Montgomery County to the Mcps.org ??

Wow. March sounds late for planning purposes. Especially for staff and teachers!

Give me a freaking break! You teachers and your complaints are never ending. You have off summers, a million holidays and get winter and spring break. You will have taught at home for 18 months. Not much to plan. Maybe not knowing the exact start date is so stressful?!? My schedule changes weekly.

That sucks for you. If you don’t like your schedule changing weekly, find another job. Teachers and their administrators are not required to, nor will they, mimic your crappy working conditions.

Yes! We need to get DCUM on this question!

Any chance the school year next year could be extended by a couple of weeks? Maybe I'm alone in wanting that but the kids have lost SO much instructional time over the past year. I think we all can see there are concepts they normally would have learned but did not, due to the pandemic, and some kids may need to be retaught things that didn't really sink in over Zoom.
Maybe there's some other plan to deal with the learning loss, in addition to summer school options like last year that were well-intended but not enough (and voluntary, anyway). To me, it seems like a no-brainer that kids need more learning time. Not trying to start a huge debate but just wondered if that's been brought up as an option.

If you're asking teachers to work beyond their contracted number of days, I presume that would require a contract addendum or something similar. I can't see that happening.

Robust summer school offerings, where teachers voluntarily sign up to teach, are much more likely.

Didn't want it; too much ambiguity.

I agree it's too much ambiguity with that domain name (4 letters followed by .org). But it's too bad MCPS Maryland didn't go ahead and purchase the domain name to prevent situations like "Look -- first day will be August 12!"

How could you even ask such a question? We have lost so much instructional time due to the global pandemic and the children are suffering from lack of spelling tests!
