My cousin swears on the Keto lifestyle

I tried keto and it wasn’t for me. Having success on WW right now. Cutting out so many foods was too stressful for me and I had some weird side effects. Remember that while it may work great for your cousin, it’s not right for everyone. Give it a 3-week trial and see how you feel.

OP here, thanks PP. I am thinking maybe I should just go back to WW too. I love fruits too much and they are good for you.....whichever I pick, it needs to become a life-style, since I had success with WW, but once I stopped it, the weight came back. Are you doing it on-line, or do you go to meetings?

Just online right now. I don’t know when I could go to the meetings. It’s working well so far!

I'm doing meetings. They are pretty boring and I don't 'learn' much—But I do find that going is good as it's a weekly reminder about sticking with it and I like the stress of the public weigh-in. Keeps me on track due to the embarrassment!

I had success, either keeping weight off or losing, but when I stopped tracking I gained it all back and almost 20 lbs more. I'm sick about it.

I think WW is sustainable and doable and promotes eating a wide variety of healthy foods; I just want to eat whatever I want and be skinny.

OP here - you got it, that's what I want too, LOL

I lost 100lbs in the first year and have kept it all off since. I do some intermittent fasting, have higher carbs a few days a week (mostly special occasions), and focus on eating whole foods as much as possible. I just feel better keeping the processed crap out of my diet.

Op here - thanks. WW is by no means a fad, has been around for a long time and promotes healthy eating habits too. Just need to stick with it, it has to become a life-style. Just like with keto. If you would stop doing the keto life-style, you would gain weight back too. Amazing that you lost 100lbs, wow, congrats!!

I’ve NEVER felt that way before and I thought people were lying when they said they just didn’t care for sweets. Now I kind of get it. My sweet tooth has gone from raging to way less powerful. I’m a little sketched out honestly by the amount of fat but I’m losing weight and I feel good so I plan to stick with it until the end of 2018 then get some blood work done to make sure everything looks good. I agree you have to do what fits with your preferences and lifestyle. Good luck OP!

OP here - I agree, I was also hungry many times on WW....it's because fruits and veggies do not fill you up for as long as fats / proteins do...I guess...

I’ve been eating keto and it works for me. Absolutely a lifestyle and it only works if you stick to it, like everything else in life. I feel amazing, so to me it’s easy to stick to it.
However, I heard somewhere that the best way of eating for anyone is whatever gets you to lose weight and feel good, but also allows you to go about your day without feeling like you’re on a diet. If you go to bed at night and your last thought isn’t what sacrifices you’ve made on your food, the fact that you’re hungry, or anything else about your “diet”, then you’re doing it right. I never think about the fact that I don’t eat carbs until I’m around a bunch of people eating it. I was tempted in the beginning, but now I’m kinda grossed out by all the sugar. Since starting keto I’ve had two planned carb days and I felt so gross after, it was easy to go back.
But my point is, find something you can stick to.

It is harder if you don't like meat, but the point of it is to eat about 75%fat/20% protein/5% carbs so a ton of fruit doesn't really fit into that. I typically eat eggs with avocado or a coconut milk protein shake for breakfast, for lunch a giant salad with dark leafy greens, cucumbers, grilled chicken thighs, oil/vinegar, maybe some cheese; dinner is anything from a taco salad to cava to broiled salmon with veggie sides. A few nights of week I have a glass of red wine, some dark chocolate, berries with whipped cream. It doesn't feel restrictive to me, and I find that eating out and social events are easier than when I was calorie counting. I don't crave sweets or even feel that hungry anymore.

I have heard this, but it felt so restrictive to me. I took my kids apple picking, and couldn’t eat any of the apples or anything we made from them later. I had to come up with all new things to make for family meals where carbs were separated out from the rest of the meal. No more tasting the cookie dough or baking bread with my little girl. It wasn’t a lifestyle that was going to work for me long term. I had to give up too many things that I love.

Good things: kids ate ALL of their vegetables every day because they were cooked with salt and healthy fats. I have actually continued adding oil, nuts, and seeds to our veggies.
Also, I really never did feel hungry.

I've done low carb for quite awhile and with varying degrees of success. For the past year or so I've been lax about my diet and it really shows. A few weeks ago I started Keto and after watching videos on Youtube I'm focusing on eating lean mean and non starchy veggies. I'm also doing portion control/calorie counting. The weight is coming off.

I plan to stick with this for at least 12 weeks. If I can lose a couple of pounds a week that would be fantastic. Once I get down to a better weight, I'll probably transition over to Weight Watchers and use Keto to get myself back on track as necessary.

^I am not getting into things like "fat bombs" or adding heavy whipping cream, cheese, butter, etc to everything.

So my percentage of fat is probably not where it should be for Keto. But when I look at the videos of people who have successfully lost a fair amount of weight on Keto, they aren't going overboard on the fat, either.

I’ve done that too, but not having enough fat doesn’t give me the full benefit of keto. I’m get many more benefits from it if I add more fat to my diet.

This exactly, find which lifestyle/diet works for you without feeling too restricted. I tried Whole 30 this past year and it was a huge struggle for me. Currently doing Keto and its really easy for me. I don't feel deprived and I can eat as much as I want and still stay within my calorie range. I don't have shaky between meals issues and I am never "starving" Once in awhile I crave fruit and have a few berries or grapes. Mostly it prevents me from mindlessly snacking on things and forces me to meal prep

I’m so confused on this Keto diet. I was told it’s a terrible diet for the average person, and only recommended in certain situations. Almost 2 years ago was told to get on it because of PCOS, and when I questioned the diet (because Keto Flu symptoms grabbed my attention) the nutritionist went into how it’s not appropriate for most .

Yet everyone is on it- and they’re seeing results. Is it basically starving the body? I don’t get it yet.

Has anyone who has done Keto experienced really bad breath? I’ve heard that it can cause this and I’m worried it might happen to me.

One of the reasons keto/paleo diets "aren't recommended" and "aren't highly rated" when the mass media rates (or average doctors talk about) these things is because they lose points for being "hard to follow". Basically they're awesome, but they're so restrictive that it's hard to fit in socially while you're on them and so people don't stay on them long. And they say the okay diet you follow is better than the awesome diet you don't.
