How often do you run your dishwasher and how large is your family?

Everyone washes their own dishes immediately after eating, since they were big enough to stand at the sink.

Only guests get their dishes washed for them. Never had more than 30 guests at a time so no need for a dishwasher.

And you also fetch water from the well at the other end of the village.

We are currently a family of three and we run ours about every 1.5 days. It feels excessive and I’m just curious what other household usage looks like.

We are empty nesters, but when our kid is home from college, it's a family of 3.

In general, for 3 of us, we need to do it every day. Not because we are out of room, but it's hard to fit in "okay, after breakfast, we'll run it" and then empty it by lunch so the lunch dishes can go in. It's for the sanity of the household. (However, if we were in a "conserve water" period, I would run it less frequently that every day.)

When it's just the 2 of us, it's usually every other day, although there are some weekends that I want to run it every night since that 2nd weekend day might need expert loading to make sure everything fits.

When there are 4 of us, it’s definitely every day. With one kid away at college, I can stretch it to about 1.5 days, sometimes 2 if someone skips a meal or eats out.

2 people. About 5 times per week. I run it in the “short” cycle and things get perfectly clean. That’s my way of trying to make it a bit more eco friendly.

Modern dishwashers (Energy Star) use less water and energy than handwashing. https://home.howstuffworks.com/dishwasher-hand-washing-dishes.htm

It's cute you believe the marketing propaganda.

Eyeroll. Energy Star ratings aren't marketing propaganda: they actually do measure the energy and water use for individual appliances.
And we can also measure how much water people use to hand wash and rinse each dish. If people hand-washed in a basin and then dunked in a rinse tub, that might be less water, but most people run their faucet for both scrubbing and rinsing.

It's no trouble at all, I can assure you! One of the girls does it, they don't go to school anyway.

Family of 4, once per day and often 2-3 times on the weekends. Two are teens and they eat and drink so much. It’s actually amazing how many dishes they can go through on the weekends

So gross how people allow dirty dishes to stack up and sit around in the sink or dishwashers. Heathens.

Once a week. One human and 2 dogs.

We run it when full. 2 of us so 2-3 times a week.

I don't know what running it every "1.5 days" means - you run it in the middle of the day? I'm not home doing the dishes then. The only reason I'd do that is a big cooking project on a weekend.

Family of four and we run ours when it’s full, every 2-3 days. Sometimes morning, sometimes evening, sometimes middle of the day if I’m WFH.

Family of 5, two dishwashers. Run at least one every day. We entertain a lot, and kids have a lot of friends over.

Once or twice a day generally depending on if we made dinner (sometimes we eat it out when the kids have sports all evening). My husband and I both work from home so we usually make lunch in addition to breakfast. We have two kids.

My dishwasher uses more water and power to get the load finished quicker. You may be using more unless your brand is different.
