In general, for 3 of us, we need to do it every day. Not because we are out of room, but it's hard to fit in "okay, after breakfast, we'll run it" and then empty it by lunch so the lunch dishes can go in. It's for the sanity of the household. (However, if we were in a "conserve water" period, I would run it less frequently that every day.) When it's just the 2 of us, it's usually every other day, although there are some weekends that I want to run it every night since that 2nd weekend day might need expert loading to make sure everything fits.
