How often do you run your dishwasher and how large is your family?

No cat people are on this thread? Cats won't eat out of dirty bowls. I serve wet food twice a day, that's four bowls right there. Dry food bowls don't get changed much.

Family of 4 at home, with a 5th away in college for much of the year. With 4 of us home, we run it at least every day, sometimes twice a day. When all 5 of us are here, it is easily twice a day.

I put everything into the dishwasher. Water bottles. Coffee maker pot and filters. My all clad pans when they fit. I can pack that thing full and make it work hard!

Family of 4. Every 1.5-2 days.

But I hand wash all pots and pans and most plastic items.

1-2x a day family of 5 only one works in an office 4 days a week. Rest are home.

We are currently a family of three and we run ours about every 1.5 days. It feels excessive and I’m just curious what other household usage looks like.

Do you let your crusty dishes just sit in that space for 1.5 days? It's faster to wash by hand, folks.

We’re a family of 5 (4 when son is away at school) and we run it almost every day. Occasionally we can skip when we do a takeout dinner or we aren’t doing a lot of cooking/baking/food prep.

(NP) Why does it matter if the dishes sit in the dishwasher? They still come clean easily. If you don’t need them, what’s the big deal? I have plates, silverware, and glasses for 12 and a family of 4. No need to run every day.

Three people. Every other day mostly. Every two days if I’m not cooking a lot.

It's just me. About once a week or less. I pretty much wash each dish as I use it them load it onto the washer and run it when it's nearly full.

One time I let my dishes pile up for about three weeks until they smelled. When I was finally picking through them to rinse and load into the dishwasher there were huge slugs on some of them! How the hell did that happen? It tought me a lesson about not letting them sit for so long.

Screw that. I have three cats and keep refilling the same two bowls with wet food for a week before washing them. They don't seem to mind.

+1. My cat isn't picky about a dirty wet bowl, so I just wipe it out and refill it.

Heaven forfend I buy a different litter though.

This is disgusting.

Smaller family--2 or 3 times daily (and it is always full because we have pets).

Okay. Why are you running your dishwasher multiple times a day because of your pets? Do you cook for them?

+1 what does this mean??? I have a pet but it does not impact our dishwasher practices

I wash their food and water bowls every day
