Or only black people somehow can't make it to the DMV, but white people can?

Google a map in the south of the DMV locations and superimpose the map with where the communities are majority AA. You will see the problem.

If you are making a statement that "only the black people somehow can't make it to the DMV" then you have clearly never experienced the problem. Glad you are enjoying your privilege.

So now it's only about the black people living in the South who can't make it to the DMV, but can somehow find a way to make it everywhere else they need to go to. But the poor white people have no problem making it to the DMV? This is almost as ridiculous as the "can't find my birth certificate" excuse. lol

Millions and millions of people in this country, for multiple reasons, do not have access to basic services.
Numerous people never had birth certificates, and therefore cannot “find” them because there are no birth certificates to find.
Literally no one in this long and tedious thread has made statements about what “poor white people” have “no problem” doing — although it has been pointed out numerous times that laws have been framed to disproportionately impact Blacks and other people of color.

Exactly. Not to mention insulting.

If you really are a strong Democratic voter, than you already know that there is minimal voter fraud in the US. Even the Republicans who double and triple checked states like Georgia agree on this. So if the current systems are working well, what exactly do you hope to gain by adding onerous requirements?

One of the issues here is about the types of ID that are required. I think another issue is the wildly varying requirements from state to state. It’s hard, though, for me to argue for uniformity with people who are trying to disenfranchise me.

I’m curious: At least two majority white states do all of their voting by mail. Do you feel that this is problematic in any way? And, no, voters are not scanning copies of their gun licenses to include with their ballots.

Curious: who, exactly, is trying to “disenfranchise” you? You have an ID, correct?

Your wallet is stolen at the hospital and your birth certificate is awol because you have lost all your possesions. And you are white, so no problem, right.. But you are 80. You live in assisted living. You are battling cancer. You do not have ID to request your birth certificate, and even if you could get it, you are too sick to go to the DMV now. And you have no transportation because your family lives out of town.

This was my father, a WWII Marine.

So screw you and the rest of the GOP.

Then create a federal agency that is tasked to solve this problem for anybody at 0 (zero) cost to the citizen.

A federal ID already exists, the US passport. Have the federal government issue free passports to anyone that needs it. In case of missing birth certificates, documents, etc, the federal agency would have a protocols in place to address it.

Why is this bureaucracy necessary again? Why are you trying to fix something that isn’t broken?

One more time - there are people who literally DO NOT HAVE the documents necessary to get an ID. Not only are there people who do not have a copy of their birth certificates, there are people who don’t have one at all - they have NEVER had one.

as I said above, create a federal agency to solve this issue at 0 cost for the citizen

because, apparently, 25 million people don't have a valid ID

If you acknowledge that as a problem why are you tying voting to IDs and not utility bills or affidavits?

You are really dense. States make the ID rules. So racist states like Georgia will just pass a law that the Fed ID is no good for voting,

a state will outlaw the US passport as a valid ID?

sorry, hard to believe. that would be thrown out by the supreme court. yes, even the current supreme court

I’m sorry, since when has it been easier to get a passport than a state id? Getting a passport is a pain.

Damn you are dumb. The GOP doesn't want everyone to vote, so they will never support this,

If you’re a us citizen, and you don’t have a valid ID...
That’s a choice.
Made by you.
Maybe not a good one, but a choice nonetheless.

There’s no reason, at all, why a US citizen wouldn’t have a valid ID.

Stop making excuses. Get your ID.

First, respect. I did not call you or anyone else names.

Why do you need the GOP support? Was GOP needed to pass COVID relief?

Make it a part of HR1: The federal government will supply passports and straighten out missing birth certificates to anybody that needs it.

Then let's see how the GOP argues that the government should not solve this ID problem that they complain so much about.
