We are going to look like fools DL while the rest of the country opens up

Evanston also announced all DL to start.

My sister's kids in Alabama will start all-virtual for the first quarter, as will the districts surrounding them.

It’s very interesting. Lots of people claimed that the coronavirus is a hoax and the cases/deaths are made up by Democrats. But lots of Red States and GOP Gov/Mayor are doing DL/Virtual Classrooms as well. So don’t blame MCPS.

Check out the photo of Niagara Falls that shows the Maid of the Mist and its Canadian counterpart. America is weak.

Oh please. No, Americans are not weak. I have family in Toronto and have many Canadian friends. The tourist areas near Niagara have been packed on the Canadian side.

Plus, think of the waste from running a boat with just 6-10 people. Quite the carbon footprint, huh? Especially considering it’s an outside attraction, and Covid is more likely transmitted inside, due to recirculated air.

I don’t think people are claiming the virus is a ‘hoax’. Maybe some. But most of us are pretty tired of the media’s overdone, over-hyped fear-mongering presentation of the virus.

People have nowhere to go to get clear, unbiased facts. Every news story has a political angle (on both sides) and it’s impossible to know what is really going on.

Have a governor who's a woman.

Sorry, but it's true.

Nope. Just like you can’t blame Trump for Covid, you can’t give Janet Mills credit for Maine’s situation.

Maine is 35K square miles and has a population of 1.3 million. Maine has a population density of 41 people per square mile.

Maryland has a population density of 594 people per square mile. And Maryland is way more diverse.

Population density makes a huge difference in the spread of Covid.

Like in Arizona, for example, which has a population density of 45 people per square mile.

No, wait...

You’re right. Let’s look at the demographic differences between Maine and Arizona.

We have been told that Covid affects Blacks and Latinos at a higher rate.

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/07/01/885923635/why-latinos-are-hospitalized-from-covid-19-four-times-the-rate-of-white-american

Arizona is about 30% Latino, whereas Maine is about 1% Latino.
Arizona is 3.5% Black and Maine is 1.7% Black.

That could definitely contribute to the difference in stats.

PP, you can not be this dumb...

The virus is picking ANYONE’s mouth, nose, or eyes to enter. It doesn’t migrate to black and brown people. Good Lord. Wearing a mask slows this down FOR EVERYONE. There is some evidence that minorities have some more side effects of the virus. That is all. And it has more to do with poverty level and health care options and how it affects their overall health (more asthmatics, diabetics, etc...)

Sure, hurl insults. That’s cool.

It doesn’t matter. If the stats show that Latinos are more affected by the virus (due to pre-existing conditions like diabetes, due to poverty, due to the fact they live in more densely packed houses, etc) - then that means if there are more Latinos in an area, the number of Covid cases will be higher in that area.

The point is, this is not a Democrat or a Republican issue. Some areas are doing better and some are not. That’s due to multiple factors (population density, demographics, etc). It has nothing to do with whether the state is run by a Democrat or Republican.

So pricing Janet Mills for covid stats Maine is just as stupid as bashing Trump.

What? This is nonsense. My husband was there 2 weeks ago and it was EMPTY on the US side. Completely and totally empty.

This is frankly the biggest issue imo. Something that we should all be talking about and probably have it's own separate thread. This is the reason no one know what to do and people are so divided.

This is THE MAIN issue. Absolutely and positively. And I have family all over the world, many of them who feel the same about their own media.

What has happened to integrity in journalism? Even so-called ‘we’ll-respected’ media outlets have established that they cannot be trusted to be unbiased. Combine that with social media nonsense posts and people are overwhelmed by hype and misinformation.

Look like fools? Too late for that.

Nope.
I think we’re going to look like geniuses DL while the rest of the country opens up and infection rates soar. Look at FL, Texas, Arizona. The more we “open up”, the worse it will get. Stupid people are flocking to amusement parks, beaches, and restaurants - right before school starts in many places. In 2-3 weeks, numbers will be much higher than they are now because people are selfish, restless, and bored.

22 year old packing bars sharing drinks/food, singing, hooking up, and then going home to give the rest of their family COVID is not the same as socially distance masked kids in school, who do not transmit the virus to family.

Otherwise daycares would be soaring in numbers all over the country, no?

Only the places young people partied are soaring. All the Spring Break areas.

It's still there, aside from Fox, Sinclair, and the hedge funds that are buying and closing newspapers.
