Would you allow your 16 year old daughter to wear one of those almost thong swimsuits?

Because women wearing this type of clothing encourages objectifying ALL women. Men prefer for women to wear less clothing so some women wearing less clothing makes the standard that ALL women should go to the pool or beach this way.

Young girls wearing this type of clothing sexualizes young girls and signals to men “look at me in a sexual way because I am showing off my ass and boobs.” This in turn encourages men to sexualize all young girls, which is wrong.

Nah. They objectify themselves and themselves only - which they are free to do that if that is what they want to do. I, personally, would not want that kind of attention nor would I want the judgment that comes along with it.

They are not objectifying themselves.

You are objectifying then and you are an apologist for a generation of kavenaugh men who are not expected to control themselves.

No one thinks men shouldn't be able to control themselves. But of course heterosexual men are going to be turned on by seeing an attractive female with a good body in a skimpy bikini that shows her entire ass. iAnd it's the entire reason that women choose to wear these types of suits. It's not something a parent should allow a 16 year old to wear.

People—of all genders and sexualities—get turned on all the time.

Why is it that we put responsibility for straight men’s inability/unwillingness to manage their sexual attraction on girls/women? Why are our standards for straight men so low? Why don’t we expect them to manage their urges the way we expect everyone else to?

Why is this the fault/responsibility of girls and women?

So you think that teenage boys should be wearing thongs to the beach, too, and that any woman/girl who looks at them are rapey perverts?

I think people should wear what they want and that other people should be able to control their responses. The only people who seem to have trouble controlling their responses—indeed, the only people anyone on this thread is worried about protecting girls from—are straight men.

So I wouldn’t worry about teen boys in thongs because I wouldn’t expect anyone to make them feel unsafe or as if they are pieces of meat. Society accepts that behavior only from straight men targeting women.

So you expect people to NOT NOTICE that you are falling out of your too small swimsuit? I think you are entirely unrealistic. When you make a spectacle of yourself people are going to notice. You are going to get reactions and you KNOW that you will get reactions. It's precisely why you chose to wear what you did. Just ask the "People of Walmart" - they know they're weird and they don't care if you think they're trashy. They are who they are - so there!

You are moving the goalposts. It’s fine to notice. It’s fine to register and even judge.

It’s not fine to comment, leer, touch. It’s not fine to tell other people they can’t show their bodies because you can’t control your reaction to their bodies.

But people will comment and they will react. If I paint myself purple from head to toe and go for a jog around the block people are going notice me, they will react and they'll probably say "WTF??". They may point at me and say to their neighbor "What on earth!?!" Some might do a double take and find themselves gawking in amazement....

Why? Because I have very purposely drawn attention to myself - LOOK AT MEEEE!!!!

When you make a spectacle of yourself you get the reactions that you get.

People with couth simply look away. It's in poor taste to visibly react to others' appearance, positive or negative.

You do realize that the entire reason that women wear thongs is so that people will look at their asses?

This is what people seem to be not understanding. The purpose of these suits is for people to look at their body.

No. What you don't seem to understand is most self confident women wear bathing suits and are not inviting people to look at their bodies. It's actually sad that you have been socialized to believe that.

You're out of your mind. Women who wear thongs absolutely want people to look at their bodies. What other reason is there to wear a thong?

no shit. might as well go naked and tell people not to peek.
whatever is exposed is fair game to be looked at.

The only mother or father who would be okay with their daughter wearing something like that is one who knows their daughter will never amount to anything or get positive attention in any other way than to make a bunch of random men fantasize sexually about her.

It's actually really, really sad.

What is really, really sad is that you actually believe that. So nobody is France is ever going to amount to anything. Nobody in California where they mostly wear thongs.

Your pathetic.

You can set rules for you kids but just stop with the doom and gloom of what will happen otherwise.

The same was said about Jordache jeans.

If her opinion was different, I do not know what I could do. I mean, today, we could have world war III, but next year she will be on her own. If she wants to wear that at college, across the drill field in winter, I cannot stop her. Her ass might freeze and fall off, but....

So she does not wear a bikini?

Just because your daughter might choose to wear a thong in college doesn't seem like a good reason to let her wear one at 16. Your daughter might also choose to drink and smoke weed in college as well. Is that reason to let her start doing it at 16? Some activities just aren't age appropriate, and I would say choosing to flaunt your ass at 16 is one of them.

Every bathing suit has ass showing.

You let your college student drink and smoke pot?

Are posters just being intentionally dense here? Are you really going to claim that you don't know the difference between a bit of butt cheek hanging out of the bottom of a swim suit versus the ENTIRE ASS showing because the backside of the suit consists of nothing more than a piece of fabric going up the crack?

You know this thread is not about things it’s about Brazilian cut where the bottom cuts across the butt. It literally shows 1/2 inch more butt.

OP here. No these girls' swimsuits showed their ENTIRE butt cheeks. I thought I made that pretty clear in several of my posts.

You need to post a picture because the swimsuits that most girls are wearing and most moms are freaking out about are not thongs. They are not even allowed in most pools in Maryland.

So post a picture and let us see.

This is what I see a lot and moms are clutching their pearls.

Someone posted a picture of a suit similar to this up thread and I said no, this covers way more than what these girls were wearing. Its essentially a thong. Only difference is there is a bit more fabric above the butt crack instead of just a string and you can see a bit of fabric coming out of the butt crack. I called it an "almost thong" because I think of traditional thongs as nothing but string.

Wow, OP. You examined these swim bottoms really, really closely. I might suggest that *you* are the perv.

Urgh, I'm frustrated on Op's behalf. People have asked Op pointed questions about the actual swimsuit the girls were wearing. Op is doing her best to describe the suits by comparing them to the ones seen in these pictures.

But the point is that she couldn't answer so specifically unless she had scrutinized these teen girls' bottoms very closely. So she is enacting the behavior over which she is wringing her hands. OP, leave these girls, their swimsuits, and their butts alone! You have no control over them and it's not your business. They don't give two hoots about what you think.

Please that's so ridiculous!

Stop shaming women. Who cares? This is such a stupid thread. I'm sure you have much better things to be judging.

I dunno. That's sort of borderline for me. I was picturing an actual thong.

Most pools in this area won’t allow a thing.

It’s just a bikini covering 1/2 of an inch less.

I personally don’t like how the feel but most are cut this way now.

Yeah. I don't really find that bikini all that shocking and it's going to look different on different body types. Regular bikini bottoms often ride up just like that. I'm pretty conservative but I think I would have worn that suit.

Op here. The swimsuit in that link covers up a lot more than what my niece and her friend were wearing. Although tbh I wouldn't let my 16 year old daughter wear the swimsuit in that link either.

OP again. Can someone post a picture from the link above of the Hamoa bottom (it's black) That's the kind of bottoms these girls were wearing and what I mean by "almost thong".

I just clicked thru. Nope, my daughters can wear that when they are 18 and buy it themselves.

yes, even women breastfeeding. some people will stare. some will glance and some won't. you can't stop someone from looking, esp. if you look good and at the end of the day, who cares, right? the whole point is if you don't want to be noticed, dress and act accordingly. I have a dress that is a bit revealing on top that I wear to get, hopefully positive attention.

Even I, as a female would look wishing my butt looked that good. I am certain every man at the pool will look, too but with a different reaction.
My 15 year old wanted to wear a swimsuit that was revealing. I told her to expect men of all ages to look and stare. She decided on a less revealing but still very cute one instead. I am sure some women won't care about the reactions they get and that is fine as long as they realize that they can't stop the lookong

Oh good grief. Trust me, I can describe the Speedo the dude I saw at the beach was wearing, unfortunately. Some things can not be unseen. As, I'm sure, Op can relate.

Yeah, no woman EVER puts on a sexy dress for date night or to go out clubbing. Never, ever would we do such a thing....
