US blows up boat said to be carrying drugs

Can someone explain that if they were smuggling drugs, why would they have 11 people in the boat? That takes up a lot of room and weight that could be used for the drugs.

And if they are smuggling people, The coast of Venezuelan is 1400 miles to the US. How would one speedboat make that trip without many many refueling stops.

Citation where they were innocent people? I haven't seen anything to that effect in the media. Lots of speculation, but the circumstantial evidence indicates there were not so innocent. This occurred in international waters, so no U.S. Constitutional rights attached. Venezuela is free to lodge a protest to the UN if it wishes to do so.
