One thing east asia gets right is how to tackle drug issues

Oh yeah—extra-judicial executions??

Have you ever heard of due process?

WTH is wrong with you people?

Are you speaking to former President Obama?

Because Obama carried out a far greater number of “extrajudicial executions” by predator drones than t-rump could ever dream of.

Obama is also a war criminal.

I’m certain no one will shed tears over drug smugglers being killed. But there needs to be rules of engagement and policies. Can CBP’s Air and Marine units open fire on suspected drug smugglers without positive confirmation?

Due process for criminals but none for innocent victims, right?

That's right, forget courts, forget laws, forget everything. Who needs civilization anyway?

But what you wrote is technically nonsensical. Due process is what the government owes anyone who is accused. By your logic, why bother having a government? Someone shoots your brother, you shoot their brother. Oh, wait, that's what gangs do.

Look at it this way. Is the US waging a war on drugs or a police action on drugs.

If a police action then by all means get a warrant, stop and search the boat and make arrests as warranted.

If a war on drugs then move swiftly and decisively based on actionable intelligence.

Think about that. First, you need Congress to declare that war. Second, by making it a "war on drugs" you sanction the use of military action against anyone involved in that war, including domestically. Instead of drug task force teams (multiple LE agencies) to execute a warrant you used groups of soldiers breaking down doors. Some countries can get away with this for a long time, but ultimately there is civil war.

Obama stretched the AUMF beyond the borders of Afghanistan and Iraq, no question.
And the right (but also the left) has long alleged war crimes here (the right didn't GAS about the civilians killed, they were just out for Obama, the left had opposite motives).
Obama was going for leaders. Obviously not the case here and the admin has made no claim it was.
Here there is no AUMF to begin with.

The worst of it is, there is literally nobody to challenge this if not Congress.

Rules and policies and confirmation--sorry, you need LAWS.
And we have laws.
And they are being broken.

Those are the rules.

What can the international community do about this?

Nobody seems to be able to answer if it's been independently proven or verified they were drug smugglers.

We certainly can't take this administration's word for it, because they've already told too many lies. We need independent verification or evidence. Venezuela denies it was a drug boat and denies it happened altogether, but we can't believe them either.

I think that they just incompetently murdered 11 fishermen.

So, now we have armed national guard troops in our cities. Is it ok if they start killing people — as long as someone, somewhere merely suspects that they’re even tangentially involved in the drug “wars”?

Well they are stopping people because they do not look like citizens. That should be enough to shoot them.

Everything Trump and his administration say is a lie. Why do you think these are drug smugglers?

In the context of a war (declared or undeclared.)

It's amazing how US citizens just believe everything they hear and are OK with killings when it's done to foreigners.

This. I guess everyone is okay with summary executions and war crimes now. It starts with brown people. Eventually they will come for you too.

Drug smuggling is bad. NArcoterrorism is bad. Pretty sure blowing up ships from sovereign countries and imposing the death penalty on them is also pretty, pretty bad.

Democrats don’t like it. Most sane people are fine with it.

Pursue any multilateral international legal means possible.

Inter America Commission on Human Rights.

UN resolutions.

Anything to isolate the US.

But that's unlikely because Trump is totally illogical and emotionally driven.

He'll lash out like an angry toddler at anyone who actually takes action.

And the actions won't acutally make much difference to the US who is still a juggernaut in terms of international influence and power.
