I thought she was great. Just snarky enough to be funny but not over the top. |
So literal! ![]() |
Just finished and have to say - this was pretty bad. It had some good moments, but the ending was SO ridiculous. I actually thought it was Benji (what a stupid name!) all along because he was so creepy and odd. Not a fan of the actor. Eve Hewson is always good. Love Meghann Fahy - first time I ever saw her was in White Lotus and I thought she was fantastic. Dakota Fanning was good I thought. NK also good but the accent was terrible. LS was meh and I usually love him. |
Dakota Fanning gave an amazing performance, completely believable.
Kidman did a good job with he role. I think she sort of played herself though - the uptight, repressed perfectionist with issues boiling underneath. Eve Hewson was hard to believe in this role. It was really hard to see why this wealthy, upper class Benji would be attracted to her. Her acting wasn't very good. I wondered how she got the role until I read here that she's Bono's nepo baby daughter. The female officer was fabulous. The actress who played Chloe did a good job too, as did the actress who played Merritt. Liev Schreiber was great as the ne-er do well rich kid turned cheating husband who relies on his wife to support them. Very believable. The guy who played the oldest brother did a great job. He completely nailed the role - so hate-able. The guy who played Benji wasn't believable. His hair dye was awful and didn't fit the role along with less than stellar acting. IMO the stars of the show were Dakota Fanning and her character's husband and the female police officer. |
Why was NK’s accent terrible? It’s close to her real accent. |
I liked this show. I was not expecting the ending. Really thought it was the husband or Nicole’s character who killed Merritt. Nicole looked great but I was distracted by how wiggy her hair looked |
Same! I especially didn't care for the ending, but I am glad I watches for the costumes and sets and scenery. And I am a huge NK fan as well. |
Her real accent is Australian. What she was doing in this show was a very affected British/continental-type of accent and it was beyond distracting. Not sure why they couldn't have just written her part as an Australian. There are complaints about it all over google. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tv/article-13822311/netflix-perfect-couple-nicole-kidman-accent.html |
I think her accent was supposed to be an affectation. She was pretending to be someone she wasn’t. Her brother’s accent was much different and rougher sounding so I understood her character to have adopted a more upper class type of accent as part of her facade. |
+1 I think the entire show was tongue in cheek in a very very subtle way. They all knew the whole thing was a bit ridiculous, but it was entertaining and a mock up of the rich world. This is why the beginning fit so well too. Would rich people actually do a Bollywood dance? Maybe not, but everyone was having a good time and it lent a dystopian quality to the show that stuck with the entire thing. You (or at least I) still got sucked into the drama and the murder mystery but there was always a quality of absurdism to the production. |
It was DEF tongue in cheek, I agree! In particular, the book party scene and almost everything that comes after. |
Totally agree that this show wasn't intended to be an award -winner! It was just tongue in cheek fun. A series version of a quick beach read.
I enjoyed it for what is was. And, thought it was pretty funny. Easy to hate all of them and laugh at the ridiculousness of the uber-rich. |
I thought Eve was gorgeous, but the running on the beach scene- wtf was that?? She moved like my 65 year old mother. |
lol. It made me feel good about how I moved. |
She was my fave character. |
