It's just glossy schlock--White Lotus without any of the smart writing or self-awareness. Just another star vehicle for Nicole Kidman, who always plays a similar character, whether she's in Monterey, Australia, or Nantucket. I do like Eve Hewson, but she can't make this piece of dreck watchable all by herself. I won't be watching any more.
The book is like this as well though. It's not pretending to be anything but pretty-to-look-at light summer intrigue. And yes, Nicole Kidman can only ever play wealthy "perfect" woman because of how she looks. It was interesting seeing Isabelle Adjani. She is so charming and weird.
Yes, I loved seeing Isabelle Adjani! She is still very pretty although her face has gone the way of Nicole Kidman's and is a bit uncanny valley. Kidman is an excellent actor and can play many different roles. She is choosing to play these very safe, one-note roles, and I'm not sure why. It just seems boring if you're an actor.
To see Kidman as the “bold & brave” Kidman, see Babygirl, a pornfest that received a 7 minute standing ovation in Venice last week.
I’m a NK fan basically in support of her clawing back from being thrown away and stripped of her children from her first husband and his cult. She succeeded professionally despite his efforts to blackball her. And she’s been in a loving relationship with the lovely Keith Urban for 20 years. You go girl!
Still, I prefer her safer projects like Big Little Lies. I guess I’m boring.
