There may be a kernel of truth about human trafficking, which is a thing that exists, but the point is to get gullible people so mad about human trafficking that they can be sicced on anyone who gets declared an enemy. The people who are promoting this film are using it to raise a mob.

Unlikely "enemies" that have been accused of human trafficking in recent years already include our local pizza place and online furniture retailer Wayfair. Anyone QAnon (or those who find QAnon useful) oppose could be next.

You mean like this tweet from the organization's Twitter account? California Democrats decided to revive a bill on child trafficking only after receiving a lot of pressure from those upset after the bill was blocked by the Democrats. SB 14 would make human trafficking of a minor a serious offense and prevent early release of those convicted. I guess you don't want people disgusted enough about child trafficking they actually pressure politicians to do something about it.

Thank you so much for sharing this!
People here want to see the truth.

It's a movie about human trafficking, it pretends to be based on real life but it's actually heavily fictionalized, overdramatized, and has many misportrayals of the nature of actual human trafficking. Also it sends some bad and ill-advised messages, like taking the law into ones own hands (for example has scenes where the main character goes into the jungle alone, where he kills someone to retrieve trafficked children etc). It also makes it primarily about trafficking children when in fact adults are also trafficked for sex, for slavery and other purposes. And some of the people involved in making/producing the film are QAnon or QAnon-adjacent, as are most of the people doing the heaviest promoting of the film - they are using it to further their sick and twisted conspiracy theories and blood libel of how some "global cabal" of "political elites, billionaires, hollywood" are supposedly drinking childrens blood or "sacrificing them in satanic rituals" or extracting some kind of mythical "adenochrome" elixir from their bodies in order to achieve immortality.

It's hard to be succinct about something so deranged without showing how deranged it is, but that was my stab at it.

Again, I think we ALL agree that human traffickers need to be cracked down on and put behind bars, but the QAnon conspiracy theories are really over-the-top and are likely to cause more harm than good. After all it's already driven people to shoot up pizza parlors and other things.

It does not pretend to be based on real life story, IT IS based on real life. It does not pretend to be a documentary, so most characters are fictitious.

What will cause more harm is the democrats who object and criticize this movie. Most of people start questioning why would anyone support child trafficking?

It's NOT based on real life. Many people including experts on human trafficking have come forward to point out that it's full of fictional embellishments, misportrayals and mischaracterizations. Also, many of the things claimed about Ballard, such as the portrayal of him as a former DHS and CIA operative have been called into question.

The biggest problem I have with what's going on is that anyone who dares to question any of the problematic aspects of the film is immediately accused of being a pedophile, or somehow being on the side of human traffickers, or being part of some fictitious global satanic cabal. That's absolutely false and deranged. I for one DO want human traffickers arrested, but I also believe in truth, and I have legitimate concerns about films like this potentially doing more harm than good.

How exactly would that work? "Siccing" movie goers who oppose human traffickers on "the enemy?"

The only person I can think of who was recently accused all over the media and social media of being a human trafficker, and jailed and is being investigated, was Andrew Tate.

And ironically a lot of the MAGA folks support and praise Tate.

It’s based on a true story of Tim Ballard who I have read about. He worked for Homeland Security and then founded Operation Underground Railroad to rescue kids from human trafficking.

There are extremists on most issues, but that doesn’t mean that it invalidates the issue itself. I don’t think this has anything to do with qanon beliefs even if qanon people are getting behind it.

I would hope that we can all agree that human trafficking is real & horrendous & needs to be addressed. I can’t imagine not supporting anyone doing what they can to help with that issue even if I didn’t agree with all of their beliefs.

It wasn't made by Angel Studios. It was made by 20th Century FOX in 2018, and produced by Eduardo Verástegui. 20th Century FOX was acquired by Disney in 2019. While Disney was working through the licensing, rights, distribution plans and everything else for the massive new portfolio that they acquired, producer Eduardo Verástegui reached out to Angel Studios, and they negotiated with Disney to acquire the rights to it.

At no point was it "suppressed by Hollywood." If any of that were true, a major Hollywood film studio like 20th Century FOX never would have made the film in the first place, and if any of it were true, Disney would have buried it rather than agree to work with Angel Studios.

That’s exactly what we’re talking about. People questioning some of the facts and methods presented in this film and the opinions of its creators and stars DOES NOT MEAN that those people “support child trafficking.”

Last weekend on I-287 in central Jersey I was driving behind a pickup truck with a giant sticker covering the entire back window that said “SAVE A DEER, HUNT A PEDOPHILE” and the pickup bed contained a human skeleton. Just because I think that person has gone around the bend doesn’t mean that I support pedophiles.

And it's a bit deranged that people are trying to normalize hunting and killing people. Even if they are scumbag pedophiles. We are a nation of laws and due process. Gather the evidence, arrest, prosecute, be judged by a jury of your peers and sentenced to prison. That is the process. Not lawless extrajudicial killings.

If you have legitimate concerns, why dont' you produce your own documentary that accurately portrays the situation instead of criticizing someone's effort to fight it?

Do you question the facts in Mission Impossible? Because this movie is a fiction too.

Why should I have to pay millions in order to raise my concerns? Sorry, not going to do that, because I don't have millions to spend on producing a documentary. Instead, I can use message forums and social media and do it for free. And again, raising concerns DOES NOT make any of us "groomers" or "pedophiles" or "human traffickers."

Have the producers called this movie a documentary? NO.

It’s a film based on a true story.

Haters need to stop making up stuff.
