Just noticed the top flagships (besides in Ca) are all in red/purple states rather than blue ones

Or maybe those states don't care about higher education as much as Florida or Georgia or Texas. Have any NE states even attempted to set up R1 universities?

What? The University of Connecticut is one of the most well-regarded R1 universities in the region, maybe even the country.

UMass Amherst isn’t far behind.

One of the most in well regarded in the region? Brown, BC, Brown, BU, Brandeis, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, Tufts, and Yale are all R1 universities in the region. Together with UNH and UMass it is one of the least well-regarded R1 universities in the region.

You could say the same thing about NY. Unfortunately for you, empty land doesn't vote

Only CA, MI, and VA have flagships regularly in the top 25. MI is currently solidly blue (gov, senators, and both houses of state legislature are Dem); VA will trend back toward solidly blue because of abortion. And CA is of course the bluest blue.

Florida is ranked pretty close to UVA at #29.

Most recent rankings has Florida ahead of UVA.

WSJ has UF above UVA. It might be a function of value though. I think UVA is more selective, but UF is wayyyy cheaper for ultimately similar outcomes.

Really, the only flagships worth a damn are UCLA, Berkeley, UM, UVA, and maybe UT Austin.

U Dub is in Seattle.

Are you posting from Bethesda?

Not really since few DMV students are going to get into UCLA or Berkeley due to the fact that the regents are reacting to citizen complaints and thereby are reducing the amount of OOS (which includes international - a huge component from China, Japan and INdia for those schools) to only 10%. Only an extraordinary kid from this area is going to get in

You missed the 2022 elections there.
