Just noticed the top flagships (besides in Ca) are all in red/purple states rather than blue ones

See: WI, NC, GA, FL, TX, VA, MI

Then Gov Walker and the GOP gutted Wisconsin. Evers has done a great job of restoring funding.

Texas is losing good applicants for professors and current professors over the tenure fights: https://www.texastribune.org/2023/04/20/texas-senate-tenure-universities/

DiSantis is gutting Florida public education, particularly at the college level.

Michigan is solidly blue now.
Virginia is basically a blue state that had a charleton win on lies for Governor.

UNC is a abberation and I wouldn't consider GA to be in the same class as the CA, MI and other schools.

I wasn't aware that FL was a flagship. University of Washington is much more selective and prestigious.

Only CA, MI, and VA have flagships regularly in the top 25. MI is currently solidly blue (gov, senators, and both houses of state legislature are Dem); VA will trend back toward solidly blue because of abortion. And CA is of course the bluest blue.

You should probably learn to count and read before confidently stating that “only CA MI and VA” regularly have flagships in the top 25.

I'm noticing that EVERY.SINGLE.TOP private or public college is in a blue county.

You weren't aware that a school called the "University of Florida" was a flagship of Florida...?

Let me rephrase: I was not aware that it was a “top” flagship. Seems much less prestigious/competitive in relation to the UCs, UVA, UIUC, UT Austin, UofM, Wisconsin at Madison and University of Washington.

+1

I know there is also a Florida State. Don’t know how they compare.

Well the rankings and stats will tell you. It is somewhere in the middle of all of those schools.

It’s a top public university today. You clearly are not aware. It’s 2023, not 1980.

Do you not understand what is happening? Dems Flipped Georgia!

Or maybe those states don't care about higher education as much as Florida or Georgia or Texas. Have any NE states even attempted to set up R1 universities?

What? The University of Connecticut is one of the most well-regarded R1 universities in the region, maybe even the country.

UMass Amherst isn’t far behind.

UW in Seattle suburbs is a very good state flagship, but not appreciated on the East Coast.

Really, the only flagships worth a damn are UCLA, Berkeley, UM, UVA, and maybe UT Austin.

They’re all worth a damn if you can go for a good price, which is kind of the point of most flagships.

If Michigan is solidly blue that’s news to the people that inhabit like 90% of the municipalities.

UVA for CS/eng major is not worth it.
