This. Why do MD drivers think highways are video game race tracks? 30 miles over the speed limit, weaving from lane to lane. It’s insane and as common and predictable as the the sun rising.

And what’s with the left turns from the middle lane in front of all the people in the actual left turn lanes?
Left turns from the middle lane are allowed at many intersections and make perfect sense. Learn to drive and pay attention to the turn arrows on the lanes.

Omg. Not unless it’s designated for turns. No.
Many intersections are marked for the left turn lane to turn left only and the left lane has straight and left arrows meaning, you can also turn left from that lane which makes perfect sense. If you are turning left onto another two lane road, why not let both lanes turn left? It's a Maryland thing and it's brilliant! But, we know how to drive. And yes, we will likely turn left from any lane no matter how it's marked. Stay alert.

VA, DC and MD are equally horrible drivers. Do everyone a huge favor stay out of the left lane and keep to the right! Teach your children, too.
You do realize that there is still a speed limit in the left lane, right?
Yes, and if you don't want to drive above the speed limit, you have no business in the left lane. It's for passing only, regardless of speed or speed limit. Get the F over!
Nope, you can still get pulled over for speeding in the left lane so I’ll keep driving the speed limit there, junior

Terrible drivers. They should all stay in MD.

As a Big Ten supporter I am annoyed that Maryland has joined too. MD sports are a joke.

Great thread ... as a (Maryland) man of the people, I like to hear what our poor, slow-driving cousins to the south are thinking. Is there a charity I can support to help these poor souls?

Great question Md Man of the People.

Moms against Drunk Driving would be a good place to start.

At Mothers Against Drunk Driving, we're focused on one goal: ending impaired driving for good. Since our founding, we've served as a lifeline for thousands of victims and survivors, and drunk driving fatalities have been cut in half — but we refuse to stop there. Together, we can end this 100% preventable crime.

And you are the person who complains about all the bad drivers who tailgate you and flash their lights. The left lane is for passing only and that's the law. If you sit in the left lane doing the speed limit, you are not a safe driver, you are a menace and you are breaking the law.

You don’t think Fairfax County types are worse?

It’s the whole state. Annapolis , eastern shore blah blah blah… crabcakes, lacrosse, private schools, country clubs, sailing, blah blah blah … Big Ten
UMD, Hopkins, Navy… even DC and Georgetown are embedded in Md. They own the Potomac River which is kind of infuriating. Just so arrogant.

Imagine! Owning the Potomac River--the nerve of Maryland. Like Randy Newman said, "The South Americans stole our name." Drop the big one on them.

So Great Falls Virginia is named after an natural attraction located in Maryland? Now that’s humiliating !!

You can’t get pulled over for speeding in the left lane? Yes, you can which means you’re breaking the law. I love getting tailgating actually because the tailgaters are the ones that don’t care about the actual law, and I love seeing them get furious as their tailgating doesn’t intimidate me and they just don’t get to their destination 5 seconds sooner. I never move for them.

LOL at you VA people.

I get annoyed with MD drivers because I live in MD.

If I lived in VA I'd probably be annoyed with VA drivers.

Why? Because there are bad drivers everywhere.

And I'm not originally from the DC area. And yea, where I'm originally from, there are bad drivers there, too.

You are a terrible driver who is impeding traffic. Your choice to sit in a passing lane, don’t complain about other drivers. You’re just as terrible a driver as those you complain about.

Im not complaining at all, as they can tailgate all the time and the risk is on them. I’m completely happy going the speed limit and it’s a myth that you can just fly on the left lane. Cops will pull you over, not me. You’re the angry driver, not me.

NP here:
No, you are the douche who is holding up a line of cars behind you. You can drive in the left lane, but you should move over anytime a faster moving car comes up from behind you. It’s basic common sense and drivers courtesy.

You are literally the cause of traffic. The number of times I’ve been on the B-W Parkway and some slow moving idiot in the left lane holds up 30+ cars is ridiculous. Move the f#ck over and mind your own business.

Back story: mom from was from truly depressed Cumberland, Maryland. I had family in Rockville and PG County (Bowie). Christmas Day would start happily enough then the feeling of doom and dread would set in as we’d have to put out toys down and drive into Maryland for a family Christmas gathering.

I’d usually be carsick en route and arrive to my aunt’s house queasy and sick.

Maryland used to make me physically sick. I still want to bulldoze and power wash great swaths of the state.

-Snobby Virginian.

Funny, I'm from NY but moved to Charlottesville for a job and although the immediate town was nice, I thought what a trashy, rednecky, depressing state. Like two minutes away from Cville and you see Confederate flags everywhere. The obsession with the Confederacy! It was nauseating. And the evangelical Christians reminded me of the Taliban. Between Liberty University in Lynchburg, and Pat Robertson in Va Beach. All those crosses everywhere!

Moved up to Maryland, live in downtown Bethesda and can walk to work, and couldn't be happier to be around reasonable and educated people who live in the 21st century. Maybe when you get that big bulldozer and power washer you should hit Virginia first!

You realize Arlington/Clarendon/Courthouse is virtually identical to Bethesda, right? It’s all blue and an even quicker commute downtown with more single family housing stock walkable to things.

And my kids play sports that take me to sh@those pockets of MD with huge Trump signs and confederate flags. There are rednecks there too. Just not in the urban areas, just like VA.

Yes. Close-in to DC on either side is identical.

+1

Driving while not passing in the left lane is considered aggressive driving in most states, and you will get fined.

Both MD and VA have the worst drivers, for the record.
