Same in my maryland town - so many Va drivers cut through here to get to DC. They tail gate, blow stop signs, speed in residential area, don’t stop at pedestrian crossings, honk unnecessarily, and don’t let others merge in when they can. People Driving from one state to another probably have long commutes and behave worse is states where they they think people don’t recognize them. |
I’ve never been aware of this stereotype. |
No fan of Maryland but I go for a good bit of stuff Camden Yards, Nicks Fish House, Marathon Deli… stuff like that |
+1. This. Need to start pulling the licenses. Wish the state police could use drones to track these idiots. |
The ridiculous rules regarding buying alcohol in Maryland. |
Massachusetts is infamous for a**hole drivers (hence the term “M*sshole”), but there’s a certain of order to their madness. They don’t squat in the left lane. They use their turn signal. They don’t have a bunch of phony paper “ghost” plates and drive like lunatics who stole a car. I’m pretty certain that a lot of the more reckless MD drivers are legit criminals in stolen cars. Look at the correlation between paper plates and just wantonly reckless driving in Maryland. It’s 1:1. |
You lost me on the no job growth. Alas N. VA has obliterated MoCo for so long in this regard I bet some MoCo residents are ready for a second bridge (to get to their jobs in the Dulles corridor faster) |
MA is bad, but it isn't DMV bad. MA drivers drive aggressively, but DMV drivers drive aggressively AND stupidly. Driving on I95 during Friday and Saturday evenings is harrowing. It is very common for maniac drivers here to drive 90, 100, even 120 mph on 95 while weaving in and out. It is lawless. So many laws are ignored on local roads too. Everyone around here are a**holes when they get into the car. Speeding is a huge issue. There are so many roads around here with 35-40 mph speed limits, yet people will go 70 mph on them. And even going 70 there are people who will want to drive faster. |
Hilarious thread. Maryland drivers are terrible because they drive too fast or too slow, maryland is known for arrogance and wealth or dirty/sketchiness, it’s “all of” Maryland, from a poster that names just a couple near-to DC places (which is like hating all of VA based on just northern VA or just the southern part). I grew up in VA, happily crossed to the MD side, am never going back. I love MD! |
So much worse after pandemic. It’s as though all the even tempered, intelligent drivers left the road in Maryland - and the cops stopped giving tickets. Oh wait that is exactly what happened - work from home/George Floyd. |
It pains me to say it but Md is looking kind of smart now with work from home. Va has ruined its landscape with empty (ugly) albatross buildings. |
Who could have predicted such a situation? Talk about stumbling into a more fortunate position. |
This. Why do MD drivers think highways are video game race tracks? 30 miles over the speed limit, weaving from lane to lane. It’s insane and as common and predictable as the the sun rising. And what’s with the left turns from the middle lane in front of all the people in the actual left turn lanes? |
According to the insurance institute: https://insurify.com/insights/states-worst-drivers-2022/ VA #9 MD - not on the list But sure, don't let statistics and facts get in your way. Your anecdote is so much more accurate. |
+1 originally from CA. |
