It's probable that there were dozens of other girls at the same party doing the same thing who went home safely. A lot of us can say "There but for the grace of God go I" or "That could so easily have been my daughter." So, lets save the victim blaming.

Why do “loving” parents allow this?

New poster here. Are you from another planet? This is what teenagers do! I had conservative strict parents and somehow I made it to so many parties like this where kids were drinking, dancing, doing what teens do. I am so confused by the suggestion that her parents are these negligent freaks. Teens party. It’s kind of a universal, normal thing. She wasn’t a 13-year-old. She is two years away from living fully independently. In many countries around the world, kids at 16 are out working jobs, earning money, close to full independence.

A 16 year old kid out past midnight, getting super drunk, and driving is not “normal,” you nitwit.

Teens party. They always have and they always will. I don’t know how define normal but it’s very very common.

Now you’re moving goalposts with the far more broad “teens,” which can include high school seniors and college freshman. She was 16. She was out past midnight? Drunk as a skunk? Drugs? Drinking and driving? Not “normal” in the slightest for a 16 year old.

You washed up party girls love to get on her and rationalize what out of control train wrecks YOU were.

I didn’t even have a sip of alcohol until well into college. I was as goody two shoes as they come. But I know what my peers were doing, and they were partying at campgrounds like the one Kiely was at. Many 16 year olds want to party and many of them do. They just do. I’m not approving or disapproving. It’s just a fact.

And to add—I went to a private school, not elite by DC standards but the best in my town. Everybody partied.

What university? She’s graduating two years early from a public or private hs?

UCSC. She went to a public charter HS. She had a 4.0+.

I didn’t drink until I was a junior in college and I think your judgment is ridiculous, but if you are going to judge at least know the facts. This kid was an academic star, not a train wreck. Finishing high school early with straight As and getting into the UCs is no joke.

Not that it really matters, but she was going to Sierra College first. If thins went well, she would go to UCSC.

Sierra College is a public community college.

She skipped a grade due to doing well academically.

Norhing is worth losing a 16 year old child in this way.

Very weird how PPs said she was headed to an elite university to “prove” she’s so smart, while also implying her family is super responsible and on the ball — but it’s actually a community college.

Her step dad made a statement in the beginning that she is “headed to UCSC”. Later it came out she will be going to Sierra College. There’s nothing wrong with community college!

I went to a middle class public HS not in this area and I know very few parents that would have allows this in HS. Not at this type of location or hour of the day.

The only reason we are hearing about it. She's a pretty, blonde woman. I hope she's found safe and alive.

The idea that we only hear about missing white people is about 20 years old. Stop holding on to the past. We hear about everyone nowadays.

+1. So tired of people trying to make every single thing about race. It's not helping the cause at all.

All the people saying teens going to parties is not appropriate or normal are INSANE. There is literally like an entire genre of entertainment based on teen partying.
