Well.....Lithuania got a third of its land mass, including the capital city, via the USSR largess who took it from Poland and gave it to Lithuania. It would have been a much smaller country if it never joined the USSR. Ukraine too - USSR gave the a chunk of Poland, a chunk of Hungary and a chunk of Romania. |
No, Putin would have been quite fine with friendly Ukraine, and it could have been done very easily. He would have been fine with their economic integration with the EU, trade, travel, etc. It is not true that he is somehow threatened by "democratic Ukraine" - especially if you face the reality that Ukraine's political climate prior to war has been every bit as corrupt and oligarch-heavy. There is no earthly reason why these two countries could not coexist. And they will because proximity will not go anywhere. |
| About 20% of Ukraine is controlled by Russia, with little in the way of counterattacks that roll that back. |
One of the few who gets it here |

Russia’s winning. They’ve been winning the whole time.
Sanctions are a joke, and frankly coalescing a huge new axis of evil ally group. |
What’s a neocon and why would listing a bunch of failed foreign policy stuff Obama/Biden did, make someone a neocon. What does that make Obama and Biden then, since they did those things? |
What’s a neocon? Wow. Show yourself out. |
Lithuania has a much greater claim of historical nationhood than does Ukraine, the etymology of which is generally agreed to be borderland. Maybe when the Soviet Union dissolved the Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine should have adopted something like the “Republic of Galicia, Ruthenia, and Volhynia”. That way the new country is linked to recognized historical states. However these were also never independent countries and were subjects at various times to Hungarians, Austrians, Poles, Lithuanians, Tartar Khans, Turks, Mongols, and of course Russians (probably others too). Belarus has a similar conundrum. |
Losing generals, tanks, the flagship, the other flagship, those paratroopers, countless troops, irradiating soldies at Chernobyl, that's just playing games. Sure. Russia is destroying Ukraine. Russia is destabilizing Russia. |
This. People don’t understand that Ukraine is being saved due to being white Slavs. Russia could literally erase 40 million people in a month if they wanted. |
Hon, Russia doesn't want the Ukrainians, they want to round them up, ship them "east", and replace them all with Russians. Russia has exposed the weakness of their vaunted army. They can't erase anything. At all. |
Russia has unlimited artillery and tac nukes. They could glass the country if they wanted. Russians have a stomach far stronger than the west. In 4 years time, full trade relations will be reopened with Russia, Ukraine will be landlocked, and Russia will have the entire northern coast of the Black Sea |
LOL, their army is weak, they can't erase anything, and THAT"s why Ukraine needs like a hundred billion million kazillion dollars and untold ammo to fight them. Uh-huh. One of these things is not like the other. |
Russia doesnt view their former territories through the lens of a white American progressive. |
Typical answer from someone who is truly clueless. Losing generals, tanks, ships etc. is part of wars, nothing new there. They are toying with Ukraine. They could have bombed Kiev into oblivion if they wanted to. They are destabilizing the region and destroying Ukraine piece by piece until they get what they want. Ukraine will never be a member of Nato |
