Was that originally set as a teacher workday or something?

Yes, grade prep

When are teachers supposed to do their grades then?

Honestly, they should just skip the report cards for elementary if it's an issue. The report cards we get just have general comments copied and pasted from every other kid's report card and the standards based grading doesn't provide any useful information as to what my kid is doing well or struggling with. It's a waste of teachers' time.

I have a high school teacher with 150 students that like to do their work at the last minute, and I’m encouraged to accept it. This sucks.

I'm the ES report card poster- I can completely see how it's different for HS with way more students and report cards that actually mean something for the kids. So many of these school closure issues are just vastly different at the ES and HS levels.

Yeah, I agree about the elementary report card. “Meets”, copy & paste. I imagine those teachers participate in IEP meetings and that sort of thing during that time.

Ok but why?
In case we have more snow?

I think because parents keep upset bout closing and learning loss and now they are making up a day of school. Aps can't make anyone happy.

seniors need to report their Q2 grades to colleges. Reporting grades must happen on schedule. Why take away this day for teachers? Ridiculous! It could be made up later in the year when there aren’t so many staffing issues due to COVID.

Oh geez I read your post wrong. I thought they were going to be out till the 31st. So it’s just a make up day? NBD

I've been home with my small children all week and will have to work through the weekend. Sorry teachers, it's stressful and exhausting, but you can manage!

Yeah- teachers never ever ever work beyond the contract hours with small children at home.

Sorry to you, too- don’t know what you do, but I can already tell you I can probably work circles around you. I will concede that I have the summer off, but during the school year- you really don’t wanna play that game, because we win.

The punishment aspect of a male superintendent castigating his majority female staff by making them work during a planning day is something I cannot turn away from. You PP seem to share this view with him. Teachers were out with COIVD, some had to stay home with their own children and they are now being punished by having the only day they are given to get report cards done taken away.

+1. I know it's totally different in middle/high school but I've yet to have an elementary report card that's at all useful. I've shared this before but we once got DDs report card...along with the reports on every other child in the class. Same notes for all of them.
