Did you actually watch? He said he didn't even know the kid. How would he know if he was bullied? It doesn't matter anyway, that's not a defense.

It is NOT a defense - and the ENABLING, bullying parents have to back off of this, and accept responsibility for their sons who "snap". Just because you bully the school administration to keep your kid in school (like these parents did), doe snot mean that other parents don't know your crooked agenda and optics stunt.

What do deer boogers have to do with this?

I CANNOT believe that counselor didn’t take one look at that drawing and the internet search and go immediately to the principal/police. JFC - the kids practically sky wrote what he was about to do.

Ah yes, a psychology degree is the magical factor that was missing here after at least a dozen people were aware of this kid's problems and failed to stop him.

Exactly. More six-figure freeloaders with degree mill credentials were needed at the district and the county level. Not enough worthless bureaucracy and layers of fiefdoms in Michigan's wealthiest county.

Social workers are much more effective in these types of situations. Despite "only" having a Masters degree.

But it is EXTREMELY difficult to predict danger with accuracy, even for highly trained forensic psychologists. The "science" is just not that developed.

Of course, after the fact when you are posting on DCUM, the answer is obvious.

But there are thousands of poorly paid professionals making such judgement calls everyday in the US.

Their work would certainly be less high stakes in other countries, where guns are not so widely available.

How about we make it a policy to err on the side of caution when a kid draws a school shooting in school?

Weird is different than anti-social. Your kids are probably jerks like you. Also, steering clear is different than making jabs, pointing fingers etc. Also, you are a disgusting human being. Maybe the kid is autistic and sucks w/ social cues, maybe they are tired of being seen as different. Tolerance is a thing. That’s VERY different than a kid like this who was clearly struggling and talking about guns, shootings, etc.

You know nothing about me or my children. And your anxieties about your own child have nothing to do with this case.

It seems more and more evident than his kid was bullied.

When are we, as a society, going to wake up to the ugly reality of bullying?

This can be stopped. There is no right to bully. It is wrong and it is criminal.

So why do we allow this to happen in every school??

I wish so deeply that bullying would stop. I also wish so badly school shootings would stop.

I think there are many things we could do to prevent each but I don’t think bullying is the main cause of school shootings.

There’s a rabbit hole that one starts down and can get lost in. I know because I was there in 1998. A teacher recognized it and got me help.

How does it seem evident other than by people here saying it happened?

Bullying is a red herring.

Fry the kid and the POS parents.

Charge any parents who can’t lock up their guns.

I've read most of the pages here and a lot of comments mention a lawsuit against the district/county for gross negligence. If those lawsuit(s) have merit and/or are successful, wouldn't Ethan's parents also have a valid claim that the school failed their son, too?

No, it doesn’t. It seems more and more evident that we need gun control.

I totally agree with the above. Shunning kids who are slightly different sounds pretty cruel, IMO. Teaching tolerance and acceptance is so much kinder.

Nope.
