You don't have to be an American citizen to fly between American airports! Presumably he had a Guatemalan passport.

Haha. A passport? You can't be serious. He walked across the border and was arrested somewhere in Texas. The father paid for his plane ticket to BWI. You don't need a passport to fly from Texas to Baltimore.

If MCPS acted responsibly, the crazies wouldn't appear. Even if MCPS admitted a mistake was made, things wouldn't be so heated but they keep saying things like "bad things happen" and "how is this our fault" and...well...that makes people angry.

I'm guessing they made all that bomb threat and shooting the illegals up to further their agenda. I call bullshit.

Shouldn't there be an age limit for kids enrolling in High School. Maybe there should be an adult education center.

I hope you are advocating to eliminate red shirting.

Oh come on. This is not about red shirting.
This is about putting someone who has attended little or no school, and who is nearly 18, and would be working or training in a trade in every other country on the planet !! , in school for four (!) years, on taxpayers' money, while they are not supposed to be in this country in the first place.

Actually, no, it's not about immigration policy, it's about the rape of a high school student. Remember her? First she's the victim of a brutal rape, then all of the so-called "conservative" media in the country, and even the press secretary, further victimize her by using her rape to further their factually-false claim that unauthorized immigrants, as a group, are a menace to society.

"This" meant "this post" - as the other poster made the post about red shirting!!

And of course I know this is about a rape, a brutal rape, that could have been prevented from happening to ONE girl. I emphasize one girl, because if it was in my power to prevent, I would save ONE girl! That goes to the poster ("oh the number of rapes we would save from happening are negligible").
The laws of our country have completely FAILED HER and her family!!!

God only knows how many other screaming girls this rapists have tortured and beaten.

Has anyone pointed out that this guy clearly had his face totally rearranged for him previously?
Someone got to him already (and they'll be coming for him again).

As for Guatemala - that country is so dangerous that women never travel without snake escorts and preferably a weapon. Of course if you bring that here there's likely to be trouble.

No, nobody has pointed that out, but it looks to me, that you are correct. This could have well happened a long time ago though, and would actually make a stronger case for him, that he was fleeing violence, as his lawyer said.

I'm appalled too. Thank you for posting this.

+1 There have been rapes at every Ivy League school + Stanford and people aren't calling for the blood of those rapists, just lamenting the bad choices made by young men with "so much potential."

I agree with this. Hate crime hoaxes are all the rage nowadays.

But - I cannot believe that school superintendent Smith never seems to say anything about the girl victim.
The primary thing that should be coming out of his mouth should be things like 'I'm outraged that this happened', 'I'm so sorry this happened to her'
'I hope that she recovers and feels better soon I and the school system will do whatever we can to help her recover from this trauma- now and over the long term as she will need support for a long time'.

Instead I see him whining and fussing at the parents and people who are outraged and scared. I see him focusing on some anti immigration comments and getting defensive and mad. I see him whining that there was some kind of bomb threat today so there are police in the parking lot.

I hear vague promises to 'shore up security soon' . Really? How about now? There was some dumb thing about teachers now keeping track of students and 'how long they've been in the bathroom'. What the hell is that going to do? Point to another perpetrator of a crime after the fact? God knows what typically goes on during the school day - I'm sure a LOT OF BAD STUFF.

He ( and the police)should personally be walking those halls and making students safe. He should be talking about the victim and expressing empathy for her.

Where in the hell is this guy from? Is this really the best they can do? He has GOT to go.

When you see people sending their kids to private school please realize that this kind of crap is one big reason.

Fully agree. MCPS has messed up left and right with this one. It took 5 days until the superintendent even held a press confeence. What was he waiting for? Incompetence and no feeling for the victim and other students.

I did. I nicknamed him Machete Face and questioned his real age. He looks older than 18.

Accurate name.
He's probably 25-30 too.

It's the strangest reaction to a violent crime I've ever seen. Ever. It's 100% 'off'

I hope the family of the victim of this horrific crime plans on suing Casa de Maryland in addition to MCPS (and Dr Jack personally).

+1000 Smith is one callous bastard. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. Not serious about his job or jumping into action. Press conference with the media and police should have happened the same day the rapist were arrested. He would not stay to take questions from the community had police escort him out after 15 minutes with a huge line remaining (the school principal did stay and took questions of people who approached her). He kept calling this violent rape an "event". He doesn't care and was hoping no one would find out. He is so incompetent and has no intention of doing anything about this. They need to toss him out yesterday.
