They don’t have school today! Anyone who’s actually from here would know that. Where are you posting from, PP?

They’re posting from Troll Land. Lots folks from elsewhere have come out of the woodwork. Russian bots, idiots with agendas outside the county, you name it.

Conspiracy theorist! We’re in APS. posted in wrong forum. Guess we’re doing the trial run today. We have our own share of maskless idiots.

Vaccines are not available for those under 5.

DH and DS were at an hour long appointment with a therapist. All masked. Two days later we get a call that therapist tested positive. DH and DS never show any symptoms. Thank goodness for masks. They should keep the mask mandate until cases are much, much lower and a vaccine is available for those under 5.

There's a big difference between wearing a mask at a 1 hour therapist appointment and for 8 hours in school. Your post is irrelevant.

Masking is not preventing spread in school. Unmask them now. Here's hoping Youngkin drops the mandate, drops quarentining the healthy, and prohibits schools from establishing mask and vaccine mandates.

Remember....you can still vaccinate and mask....its just no mandated!

I will not work 1:1 or otherwise in close proximity to an unmasked student. I will not tie their shoe. I will not open their milk. If you want people to work closely with your child, they need to be masked. We have our own family members to protect, too.

Teachers: please stop worrying about this. If a student shows up without a mask send them to the main office. There will not, I repeat not, be unmasked children sitting in the classroom. I’m starting to think that some of you are trolls. —From another teacher.

I would say 75% of the people posting on here saying they are teachers are trolls and they're not fooling anyone. Our school has a staff member handing masks out to unmasked kids at the front door and we've been told that will continue.

PP: Just curious, what kind of masks is the school handing out? Because, mandate or not, the type of mask and how it is worn matters. I've been wearing very tight N95s whenever possible indoors during the height of the pandemic; I only go indoors for short times, though, like grocery shopping and pharmacy and takeout pick-ups. I doubt kids could handle a well fitted N95 all day long. If they are wearing or being issued cloth or paper masks, I wonder how effective those will be. KF94s seem to be the compromise choice, though they need to be snug to be protective.

This is so ridiculous.

Healthy people running around looking like ducks is ridiculous—at this point, with vaccines available and a mild dominant strain.

Some teachers actually believe vaccines work.

Covid panic is over.

My infant isn’t protected by the vaccine, so I actually rely on people around me to not behave like idiots to keep her safe. You know, like public health. During an ongoing pandemic that has killed 860,000 Americans. What a fool I must be!

I agree.

+1. Drama Mama.

You need a dose of empathy and concern for your fellow community members. She has every right and reason to care about her unvaccinated child. People have died-consider yourself lucky if it hasn't been someone you know personally.

I think she’s either lying or a serious dimwit.

Covid panic is over.

She still has the right to stay in her house until her child is deemed old enough for the experimental gene therapy, then she can take said infant for as many shots as Pfizer recommends.

Our pediatric practice sent out an email begging parents to mask kids— with good masks, not cloth.

They say Children’s is full, 70% of admissions are COVID (that is COVID is the reason for admission, not an incidental finding). They are admitting about 18 kids a day. Most are 5 and under. 1/3 are admitted to the ICU.

Also, that in non-hospitalized young kids, they are seeing an “aggressive” form of croup like illness that they (and parents) find alarming. And that Type 1 diabetes has been linked to Omicron. That’s a lifelong illness.

Maybe be less harsh on new parents who cannot get kids vaxxed?

Those are not good enough for a 6+ hour school day in this omicron surge. Study results show how well different masks can be expected to protect:

Honestly I find this mask discussion so bizarre. I use to live in the area but pre pandemic moved to MA. Sure, there is a range of comfort of what we allow our kids to do (sleepovers, sports tournaments, etc) but no one I know here argues over masks. My kids don’t care. They had a phase of school non masked this fall. Now we are back to masks bc of omicron. Not really a big deal for them or for us.

We (parents, 3 kids) had omicron in Jan. Not bad at all for us. But it’s not about us. My Dad’s wife is severely at risk. I am very conscious of that. I have no problems getting the maximum in boosters allowed and masking to protect others in our society. I really have no frame of reference of how the anti maskers don’t understand this.

Ps. Do those that are upset about having their kids wear masks at school believe in God? A sincere question. If that’s the case think about why you believe. Isn’t there some messaging that it’s not about you. It’s about showing grace and empathy for others?

Will I see you there on vacation?

All the “pretend to be scared” duck faces go there when they want a break from panic theater.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by covid.

It is a risk factor for covid.

You have your info backwards.

You just stated that your kids did not have to wear masks in school over the fall until Omicron hit.

Do you not understand that most people would find that reasonable?

Meanwhile, here, the place you say you find bizarre because of this mask discussion- kids are masked up indefinitely without a break. There are no metrics with regard to when kids can be mask optional and when it is mandatory. There is never an option. Even with high schools having 95% vax rates and when transmission was at 3%.

In FCPS, masks are part of the dress code and kids will be suspended for improper wearing of masks. And you think it’s bizarre that we talk about this?

Do you believe in science? Where is your grace and empathy for expecting some reasonable metrics? Just mandatory masking always? You have no idea how little our school system has priorized education and children during this entire pandemic but you may sit there in MA and judge us.
